  • Desirable LED dashboard example
  • One of only 638 made

There could scarcely be a more prestigious union of car names than Aston Martin and Lagonda. The former was founded in 1913 and became famous for its fast, nimble sportscars whilst the latter established itself in 1904 and built a reputation for large, powerful touring cars to rival Bentley and Sunbeam. It was David Brown that turned Aston Martin’s focus to luxury grand tourers although after the low-volume Lagonda Rapide of 1961, it was not seen again until 1974 when a long-wheelbase, four-door version of the Aston Martin V8 was produced named the Aston Martin Lagonda.

Only seven were made before a new Lagonda appeared, famously, or infamously, styled by William Towns known for his idiosyncratic wedge-shape design and was the most high-profile product from the Towns’ canon. Critics either loved or hated the looks of the Aston Martin Lagonda but one thing was certain, there was nothing else like it. Under the vast bonnet lay Aston Martin’s 5340cc, DOHC V8 costing a huge £49,933 in 1979 and highlighted by cathode ray dials and sensitive touch-controls.

First registered 20th March 1981 and supplied by Reg Vardy Ltd. this Lagonda was capable of 143mph in consummate luxury in 1981. Presented in deep Racing Green metallic with fabulously appointed Magnolia Nuella leather trim and deep brown contrasting carpets. The interior is in as new condition and the early LED digital display and touch-switchgear is truly a nod back to the luxury and technology of Aston Martin, all of which have been refurbished. The rear seating area benefits from a sunroof and numerous added passenger lights and air-vents and in this casewe are informed ice cold air conditioning.

In the boot is the Lagonda briefcase holder and Aston Martin briefcase and with the boot up you see the revolutionary design with indicators and lights in the boot! The history file contains the original purchase details, AML service book with recent stamp for a full service, bills and club correspondence, original sales brochure and even a page of old Aston Martin Lagonda $1.50 stamps.

With a new MoT test certificate passed in June, a V5 registration document and a clear HPI that accompanies this car, these are collector’s cars for those fond of an era that designers and technology took a step into automotive design in a move that seemed light years ahead of its time.

Pop up headlamps, LED dashboards, electric everything and with a full service by specialist this car is ready to enjoy with our vendor stating it runs and drives beautifully. A Lagonda ‘wedge’ is a significant part of automotive history and one that is certainly worth celebrating with only 638 made production, nothing will turn heads like this Aston Martin Lagonda. Representing a fine investment and a joy to own, you only live once! Consigned by Mathew Priddy
