The Acura NSX made its debut at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show and was introduced as a production model the following summer. This 1991 example is No. 246 of 3,163 produced for the same year and displays just 39,000 miles on the odometer. The first all-aluminum mid-engine Japanese sports car is offered with its original paint, interior and alloy wheels along with a hardcover NSX sales brochure. Climate-controlled storage and Acura dealership-performed maintenance preserved the factory-issue NSX experience for ongoing mid-engine motoring. The NSX could launch from 0-60 MPH in less than 6-seconds and click off a quarter mile in less than 14-seconds on the way to its 165 MPH top speed.
The dual-overhead-camshaft 4-valve per cylinder VTEC variable-valve timing and lift-equipped 3.0L V-6 was rated for 270 HP and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The powertrain is mounted amidships in an aluminum monocoque chassis created from a process where molten aluminum was extruded into a honeycomb structure for unparalleled strength and reduced weight. Independent suspension, traction control and 4-wheel anti-lock vented disc brakes were developed with input from McLaren-Honda Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna.
Honda constructed a dedicated facility where each NSX was mounted on its own dolly and pushed by hand on its way to completion with a mix of cutting-edge technology and traditional craftsmanship at the hands of vetted Honda technicians. The two-place interior features power-adjustable leather bucket seats on lightweight aluminum frames around a center shift console with Bose audio system, automatic climate control and door-mount power window and mirror controls. The F-16 fighter-jet-inspired windshield offers a commanding 312-degree view of the road ahead from behind the leather-wrapped tilt and telescoping steering wheel.
