Toyota’s Land Cruiser sport utility vehicle is the longest-lived model in the company’s history. The first, developed from Jeep specifications, went into production in 1951. The best-known model, the FJ40, dates from 1960. From then to 1984, more than a million were built.

Only mild changes to the Toyota FJ were integrated over the years, mostly consisting of better safety and convenience items. This included a rollbar being standard equipment by 1974, ambulance-type rear doors in 1975 along with a larger more powerful 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine, front disc brakes in 1976, with 1979 options including power steering and air conditioning, plus a better 3.70:1 highway axle gearing as standard.

This soft-top, 4x4 Land Cruiser has recently had a frame-off restoration, with great effort to keep the vehicle within primarily original specifications. This FJ40 was cared for properly and serviced before restoration by FJ Legends. It was originally purchased by an energy company and then utilized to transport industry engineers.

The FJ40 has been fully repainted in code 033 Factory White and continues to display most of its factory specifications with upgrades that include new rubber, new air conditioning, and front disc brakes. The driveline is reported to be correct from new. This includes the 4.2-liter six-cylinder engine, four-speed manual transmission, and differentials that were all intensively examined and serviced per requirements. The chassis and adjoining hardware has also been professionally repainted. Toyota factory equipment has been used in any replacement of the electrical components and the carburetor is also new.

The interior has been reupholstered in a tangerine tone and maintains the original specifications for that desirable factory look. The instruments and switches are either new or restored, as well as all emblems, and lights. There is a winch on the front, a rear-mounted (easily accessible) spare, power brakes, fold-down windshield, auxiliary front lights, and opposing flip-up rear seats.

It is little secret the fun that can be had in this collectible four-by-four FJ; experience it for yourself.
