Announced in the autumn of 1980 and typically Rolls-Royce in so far as it represented evolution rather than revolution, the Silver Spirit was based on the preceding Silver Shadow II to which it bore a distinct family resemblance. Inside, the Crewe firm's exemplary standards of equipment and finish were maintained, the most noticeable change being the adoption of separate rear seats and the reinstatement of folding picnic tables.
There was no factory soft-top in the Silver Spirit line-up, and it is not known who was responsible for the conversion of this car. It is possible that it was a special order to Rolls-Royce commissioned by the Brunei Royal Family, who did commission special orders and sometimes had them painted in the national colour of yellow. The current vendor acquired the Rolls-Royce from Gallery Aaldering in November 2009. It has since been on static display and will require recommissioning prior to road use.
Accompanying documentation consist of a copy of the 2009 bill of sale; an original Swiss anti-pollution document; and copies of Swiss and Dutch registration documents.
