Porsche’s “Sonderwunsch” or Special Wishes Department has long been the factory’s source for exclusive modifications and performance enhancements, but none have captured the imaginations of legions of Porschephiles like the famed “Slant Nose” conversion. Inspired by the World Manufacturer’s Championship-winning 935 Turbo competition series, the distinctive Slant Nose conversion literally sported a smooth nose sloping down to the front bumper without the standard headlights, which gave way to hideaway units that folded down into the smoother fender surfaces.
Further drawing on the 935 for inspiration, the Slant Nose conversion also incorporated unique straked body side intakes in the rear quarters ahead of the fenderwells, adding additional visual drama to the aggressive competition demeanor. The changes culminate in an iconic profile and an aura of fierceness that was unmatched by any other performance car of its era. Imported into the U.S. in 1985, this arresting 1983 Porsche 930 Turbo was converted to the famed Slant Nose configuration (according to Sonderwunsch, using all metal fenders) before it left Germany.
Brightly adorned in Guards Red with a black bucket-seat interior, whaletail rear spoiler and Michelin Pilot tires on painted Fuchs alloy wheels, it is powered by a 3.3L turbocharged flat-6 engine that is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. Having spent most of its life in San Diego, California, it was later brought to the renowned Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. The car was then transported by its second owner to the East Coast.
Showing 41,528 miles on the odometer, it has had all maintenance work since 2014 performed by the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta service department and comes with the original spare tire, a letter of authenticity and service records from the Porsche Club of America.
