Produced from 2003 to 2004, the type-996 GT3 RS expanded on the performance credentials of the 996 GT3. Developed in homologation form to bring Porsche’s GT3 Cup car in compliance with FIA competition rules, it offered more power than the standard GT3 and its driving dynamics were further honed for the race track. The RS moniker itself pays homage to motor sports, an abbreviation of the German word
rennsport
, or “racing sport” in English. The car’s colour-matched side decals and wheels—offered in either red or blue—gave a nod to the first road-going Porsche to carry the RS moniker, the 911 Carrera 2.7 RS.
The type-996 GT3 RS was lighter than its GT3 counterpart, equipped with a polycarbonate rear window and carbon fibre bonnet and rear wing. It was fitted with stiffer progressive dampers and front and rear adjustable control arms. The stripped-down interior featured lightweight door cards and door handles in addition to deeply bolstered, fabric-covered bucket seats, multi-point harnesses, and no rear seats. Official output from the 3.6-litre “Mezger” flat-six engine was rated at 381 horsepower, which enabled the GT3 RS to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 306 km/h.
The 2004 Porsche 911 GT3 RS offered here completed production on 8 July 2004. It left the factory finished as it is today, in Carrera White with blue graphics and 18-inch GT3 wheels. It came equipped with desirable optional extras including automatic air conditioning, a CDR 23 AM/FM stereo with CD player, the roll-cage painted in white, Xenon headlamps with washers, top-tinted windshield, and leather-edged floormats with Porsche script. The car retains its matching-numbers engine.
The Porsche entered The Carrera Collection in May 2013, joining an extensive gathering of the best of Stuttgart, where it has remained well-preserved and sparingly driven. The odometer shows 25,666 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. Considering that only 682 of the type-996 GT3 RS were produced, the example offered here is an exceptional find, sure to be appreciated by both collectors and motor sports enthusiasts seeking a road-legal 911 that excels on the racetrack.
Der von 2003 bis 2004 gebaute GT3 RS der 996er Generation basierte auf dem GT3 und bot im Vergleich dazu noch einmal bessere Fahrleistungen. Gebaut als Homologationsfahrzeug zur Zulassung zum Porsche GT3 Cup in Übereinstimmung mit den Regeln der FIA, bot er mehr Leistung als der GT3 und ein noch mehr auf den Renneinsatz abgestimmtes Fahrwerk. Schon der Name RS ist eine Hommage an den Motorsport, eine Abkürzung für Rennsport, die überall auf der Porsche Welt verstanden wird. Applikationen an den Fahrzeugseiten und Felgen wurden farbig aufeinander abgestimmt und waren entweder in Blau oder Rot erhältlich – eine Erinnerung an den ersten Porsche mit der Bezeichnung RS, den 911 Carrera 2.7 RS.
Der GT3 RS der 996er Generation war leichter als die GT3-Variante, unter anderem durch den Einsatz eines Heckfensters aus Kunststoff sowie Fronthaube und Heckflügel aus Karbon. Steifere progressive Dämpfer sowie einstellbare Querlenker vorn und hinten stellten ebenfalls einen signifikanten Unterschied dar. Das asketische Interieur mit leichtgewichtigen Türverkleidungen und Türgriffen in Verbindung mit Hartschalensitzen mit Stoffbezug, Mehrpunktgurten und dem Wegfall der Rückbank waren weitere Anzeichen, wie ernst Porsche es mit dem GT3 RS meinte. Offizielle Leistungsangabe für den 3,6-Liter „Mezger“ Sechszylinder-Boxer waren 381 PS, was einen Sprint von 0 auf 100 km/h in 4,3 Sekunden ermöglichte und eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 306 km/h.
Der hier angebotene Porsche 911 GT3 RS wurde am 8. Juli 2004 gebaut und trägt heute noch die gleiche Farbkombination wie am ersten Tag: Carraraweiß mit Applikationen und 18-Zoll GT3-Rädern in blau. Ab Werk wurde er mit besonderen Extras geliefert: einer automatischen Klimaanlage, UKW/MW-Radio CDR 23 mit CD-Player, einem Überrollkäfig in Weiß, Xenon
Scheinwerfern mit Wascher, einer Windschutzscheibe mit Grünkeil und mit Leder eingefassten Fußmatten mit Porsche Schriftzug.
Im Mai 2013 kam dieser Porsche zur Carrera Collection, einer erlesenen Sammlung von Porsches Besten. Seitdem wurde er nur wenige Kilometer gefahren und ist deshalb sehr gut erhalten. Der Tacho zeigte zum Zeitpunkt der Katalogisierung lediglich 25.666 Kilometer an. Wenn man bedenkt, dass nur 682 dieser 996er GT3 RS je gebaut wurden, ist dieses Auto ein ganz besonderer Fund, der Sammlern und Motorsportfans auf der Suche nach einem straßenzugelassenen 911 für die Rennstrecke gleichermaßen gefallen wird.
