As documented by the accompanying Kardex build sheet, this 1965 Porsche 356C Coupe was delivered new to P.C. Pacific Porsche of Burlingame, California, and it remained in Southern Cal’s car-friendly dry climate throughout its life under only three owners since new. One of 4,744 Karmann-bodied cars produced for the 1965 model year, it was placed in careful storage in 1987, where it remained until once again seeing daylight in 2017. It was discovered to be structurally sound and rust free, making it an excellent candidate for a comprehensive restoration to its original specification.
During its restoration, it was refinished in Code 6401 Slate Grey paint and it incorporates a red leather interior installed by highly regarded K&H European Auto Upholstery in Gardena, California. An interesting feature of this final-year 356C is its Golde sunroof, which was installed by the second owner. Golde sunroofs were popularized in America by expatriate German Heinz Prechter, whose work installing them in George Barris’ Hollywood customizing shop caught the attention of the Big Three and, in 1965, led to Prechter’s formation of the American Sunroof Corporation.
In addition to its matching-numbers 1582cc air-cooled flat-4 engine backed by Porsche’s excellent synchronized 4-speed manual gearbox, this comprehensively restored 356C coupe features chromed wheels with Porsche center caps, a wood-rimmed steering wheel and wood shift knob, VDO instrumentation and clock, and a Porsche radio-delete plate. It is offered with a Porsche tool roll, a jack and an owner’s manual, and it’s well documented with the aforementioned Kardex and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
