Although wartime American servicemen had little appetite for Britain’s warm beer, they acquired a thirst for the affordable thrills of the nimble, seats-of-the-pants sports car, and none was more quintessentially English than MG. The TF of 1953 was the final flowering of a vintage theme, with blended-in fenders, fared-in headlamps, a sloping grille and much improved comfort. The ultimate 1500cc version, as seen here, was capable of 88 MPH. This specialist-restored TF 1500 with a rebuilt engine benefits from a high-quality repaint over the original steel body.
It further boasts the classic livery of red with a beige interior and soft-top, the factory specification of Twin SU carburetors, and independent front suspension with coilover shocks, augmented by a 5-speed synchromesh transmission, wind deflectors, wood-rim steering wheel, Lucas fog lamps, knock-off chrome wire wheels and spare, radial tires and bumper over-riders. Sold with a matching trailer, all you need to add is a handlebar mustache, leather flying helmet and a massive grin.
