Boasting a spaceframe chassis/body of mainly aluminium construction, the GT in its 'entry level' form was powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 469bhp, while the AMG Speedshift seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission was similarly state-of-the-art. The engine was set well back in the frame and the transmission housed in rear transaxle, helping to keep the weight distribution at what Mercedes calls an optimum 47/53 percent front-rear split. Developed with input from Mercedes' Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes-AMG GT was chosen to serve as the F1 Safety Car for the 2015 season. Deliveries commenced in March 2015.
Introduced at the same time as the GT was the higher performance GT S, and later in the year a GT3 competition version was announced. Premiered in 2016 for the 2017 model-year were three new variants: the GT Roadster, GT C Coupé and Roadster, and the high-performance GT R Coupé. For the GT R, the M178 engine was tuned to produce 577bhp, an output good enough for a claimed top speed of 319km/h (198mph). While the GT R retained the key mechanical enhancements the GT C gained over the GT S, it also incorporated manually adjustable suspension (in conjunction with the base models' AMG Ride Control); an active under-body fairing; a manually adjustable rear wing; and nine-mode traction control.
At the same time various features deemed superfluous in a high-performance variant were deleted. Distinguished by several cosmetic changes, GT R when launched looked a lot like the GT3 race car.
A more track-focused version of the GT R - the GT R Pro – arrived in 2018 with a planned production of only 750 units worldwide. The Pro used the same 577bhp engine as the GT R while incorporatin extensive improvements to the suspension and aerodynamics. In addition, the GT R's optional carbon-fibre roof, and carbon-ceramic brakes were standard on the Pro, while the latter's 19" front/20" rear forged wheels were unique to the model. There was also an improved interior featuring a 10.25" digital instrument binnacle and infotainment system, and a Burmeister surround sound system.
Believed to be one of very few in this particular specification, this Mercedes-AMG GTR Pro is finished in the extremely rare and desirable China Blue with black Alcantara interior. Delivered new in Belgium on 1st December 2021, the car offered for sale by the first owner having covered a little over 6,000 kilometres from new. It comes with all books in the original Mercedes pouch, Belgian Carte Grise, and a Certificate of Conformity.
