The stablemate to collector Michael Fux’s 2012 McLaren MP4-12C, this 2013 MP4-12C Spider was likewise fully personalized for Fux, this time at a cost exceeding even that of the 2012 coupe, specifying among its $150,000 in factory options a custom-blended paint color, the eponymously named Fux Purple. The paint is just one of the myriad custom features provided by McLaren Special Operations to make this MP4-12C Spider a one-of-a-kind rendition of McLaren’s amazing supercar. Like its coupe predecessor, the MP4-12C Spider is based on the highly advanced carbon-fiber MonoCell tub.
The process for manufacturing the MonoCell is much more efficient than conventional contemporary carbon-fiber construction techniques. Instead of carbon-fiber sheets infused with epoxy and then baked in an autoclave, the MonoCell is constructed of dry carbon-fiber cloth cut into shapes, arranged in a 35-ton, seven-piece steel press and then injected with resin under pressure and heat for incredible rigidity. McLaren boosted performance in the 2013 MP4-12C’s twin-turbo 3.8L DOHC 24-valve V-8, raising horsepower from 592 to 616 HP; the 7-speed paddle-shifted Seamless Shift Gearbox remained unchanged. This 2013 MP4-12C has been fully customized by McLaren Special Operations.
Complementing the unique Fux Purple paint are a body-colored carbon-fiber front bumper insert and matching mirror arms, seat backs and wheel inners. Of course, the engine covers, sill panels, diffuser and wheel arches are also carbon-fiber pieces. Behind the 20-inch rear and 19-inch front forged lightweight wheels are McLaren’s optional carbon-ceramic disc brakes with polished calipers.
Additionally fitted with a full white leather interior with purple stitching and heated memory seats, an MSO dedication plate on the driver’s door panel, MSO F1-style front badge and MP4-12C branding on the sill panels, the car is completed with a vehicle lift system, Sport exhaust and front and rear parking sensors. It’s a truly sensational supercar capable of 194 MPH with the top down (205 when closed) and entirely worthy of the McLaren name.
