Prior to the Gallardo's introduction there had only been one V10-powered passenger car: the Dodge (later Chrysler) Viper, the engine of which Lamborghini (then part of Chrysler Corporation) had assisted in developing. Displacing 5.0 litres, the Gallardo's quad-cam V10 had four valves per cylinder and developed its maximum power of 493bhp at 7,500rpm. Launched at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the successor Gallardo LP 560-4 (560PS, 4-wheel drive) was a significant advance, powered by a new, uneven firing and more economical 5.2-litre V10 featuring direct fuel injection and producing 552bhp.
At the same time the E-gear was revised to offer a Corsa mode that made shifts 40% quicker than before and reduced the traction control intervention. A 'Thrust Mode' launch control system was added also. Some 20kg lighter than its predecessor, the LP 560-4 could accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds and had a top speed of 325km/h. Introduced in 2013, the Super Trofeo was a racing version of the Gallardo LP 570-4 intended for use in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo one-make international race series. The model was unveiled at the final round of the 2012 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo European series in Los Arcos, Navarra, Spain.
The Stradale version we are presenting is number 35 of only 150 road-legal examples, derived from the racing Super Trofeo. While still performance-oriented, it features softer settings for everyday use, along with enhanced comfort elements like more comfortable seats and better insulation. Its engine and aerodynamic features are adjusted to deliver slightly reduced power compared to the racing version, while meeting road regulations. It was delivered new on 22nd March 2012 by Lamborghini Service Ried in Austria and features the 'E-gear' six-speed automated paddle-shift manual transmission and four-wheel drive.
The car is accompanied by its original books, including its service book, regularly stamped by Lamborghini at 6,357 km, 9,582 km, 14,176 km, and 15,229 km, the latter in 2016, a few months before the current and second owner acquired it. Since then, the car has covered only 2,000 km. A 'civilized' racing car, this rare and beautiful Super Trofeo Stradale is offered with all books as mentioned, its cancelled Austrian registration document, and a photocopy of its Certificate of Conformity. The Lamborghini also comes with a glowing expertise report, issued February 2022, which concluded that it was in 'near-mint' condition, as it remains today.
