In 1968 all three versions of the E-Type underwent major revision to comply with US safety and emissions legislation, emerging in 'Series 2' guise minus the original's distinctive headlight covers. In addition, enlarged side and rear lights were adopted, while a thickened front bumper centre section bridged a larger radiator intake. Interior changes included a collapsible steering column and rocker switches in place of the earlier toggles.
This Series 2 E-Type roadster was manufactured on 2nd January 1969 and delivered to Mylchreest Motors in Douglas, Isle of Man where it was registered as 'BMN 975'. The original colour combination was cream paintwork with dark blue trim and a black hood.
The earliest documents in this E-Type's history file are invoices for the period 1993-1994 when the car belonged to a Mr Buglass in Cumbria. There is an advert within the file (Classic Car Weekly, 3rd November 2010) when the car was registered 'STF 600H' and finished in blue. The E-Type then changed hands, passing to a Mr Oliver of Carlisle, who is named on some of the paperwork from 2011. The file also contains a number of old MoTs up to 2018 and handwritten correspondence from 2010, 2014 and 2017 regarding maintenance and upkeep. It appears that a new hood was fitted at around this time.
Also on file are various invoices for parts from 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 from Jaguar specialists S N G Barratt. According to documentation, the E-Type was sold to Malcolm Bishop in November 2020, since when it has remained part of the collection. Offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and UK V5C document, this most attractive E-Type Roadster will require recommissioning before returning to the road and thus is sold strictly as viewed.
