Delivered new on 1st August 1981 this XR3 was in the very first year of production and retains its original colour specification of Sunburst Red with grey fabric interior. The original bill of sale from B. E. Sewell Ford dealership of Suffolk states that the car was purchased for the total sum of £5,337.01 and includes a certificate for the optional Ziebart treatment carried out pre-delivery. The condition is descried as very good throughout with a photographic record of the full body restoration.

The engine bay is also in great order and we are told performs well, together with a recent new exhaust and suspension components. With just three previous owners from new, features also include the distinctive original whale-tail spoiler, Cloverleaf alloy wheels, original registration, original interior, body panels, factory stampings and a complete Ford handbook set and folder with the original Ford supplied stamped service booklet. On delivery in 1981, the 1.6 litre four-cylinder would produce 96bhp and 8.5sec 0-60mph time - quicker than the Golf GTI's and with 14bhp less, this is a great fast Ford and rare to find one in this condition with such provenance.
