Three letters: ACR. This simply meant American Club Racer, but when Dodge put them on this car, it was a notation that also meant you were going to need big-boy pants behind the wheel. Stated by Motor Trend testers to be in the same marketplace as the then-current Porsche 911 GT3 RS or Lotus Exige, the 2009 edition here has an odometer that reads 230 miles. Raw performance and road manners had evolved in the Viper lineup since the ACR’s 1999 introduction and, by 2009, was part of the newly released ZB II platform. Beauty was far more than skin-deep, however, and the options included a dealer-installed 220 MPH speedometer.

Beneath the hood resides the 600 HP 8.4L V-10 engine, not modified for the ACR release since this engine had already been track-proven. There is a 6-speed manual transmission behind it. The ACR Competition Suspension changes meant coilover springs and two-way adjustable shocks, while the four-wheel power brakes featured a two-piece rotor design with Viper-notation red calipers. The ACR showed its most significant changes in the panel and aerodynamic adaptions, stated to be worth up to 1,000 pounds of downforce, roughly 10 times that the standard Viper SRT-10 offered at the same 150 MPH speed rating.

Covered in black paint with hot red performance striping, the changes included a carbon-fiber front splitter with incorporated steps to diffuse airflow, deep hood louvers and an adjustable pedestal-mount carbon fiber rear wing. This car is fully deluxe inside, done in two-tone black and red with leather seat upholstery, power windows and locks, push-button start, fully functional white-face gauges, short throw shifter, premium 7-speaker audio equipment with Am/FM/CD player, and even air conditioning. The car’s crowning touch is the offset 18-inch and 19-inch black Sidewinder forged alloy wheels wearing street-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires in sizes 295/30 (front) and 345/30 (rear).

Of the Viper packages, the ACR was considered among the most impressive releases. This low-mileage 2009 edition looks the part and has the equipment to let you use it—if you dare.
