For those thinking “No more Mr. Nice Guy,” this custom fire truck-inspired 1940 Dodge Street Rod Pickup build might just be for you. All kidding aside, this 9/11 tribute known as “Lil Pumper” was purportedly formerly owned by rock legend Alice Cooper and features a lot of very nice touches such as its chopped top, shaved trim and lowered suspension. Anything from the 1940 Dodge line is scarce today, and these pickup trucks were the durable warriors of the war years, produced on this platform design between 1939 and 1947.

However, 1940 was the only year for the run’s V-series design, and the L-head 6-cylinder engine it was born with has now been replaced by an LA-series 318 CI Chrysler small-block engine featuring chrome dress-up parts and upgraded ignition. Also tucked underhood is a siren. The engine is backed with a TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission, and this truck also features power disc brakes and power steering. The body is covered in modern Viper Red paint with special Rat Fink Fire Department Gold leaf lettering, a 9/11 remembrance rear window etching and Dodge hood emblems.

The grille is carefully blended into the body, and hidden headlamps are now behind that grille instead of mounted on the fenders. Inside is a beautiful custom interior fitted with things like Sunpro gauges, a large-face AutoGage tachometer with shift light, a custom flamed steering wheel on a tilt steering column, and a Kenwood CD radio tucked into the glovebox behind its custom-lettered door. The bench seat, door panels and other interior upholstery are done in black, and the truck still retains the two-piece windshield design.

Accessories outside include the bed cover and bed décor, a diamond plate rear step, brass-type fire extinguishers and large axes on each bedside, and the number “13” in prominent areas. Finishing off this package is a set of six-lug Eagle Alloys wheels and BF Goodrich blackwall radial tires. Since Mr. Cooper crooned that “school’s out forever,” this Dodge Rod is here to take you to your next destination.
