While certainly many pathways are followed to dream up and build quality Street Rods, appreciation for fine engineering and detailing will always prevail. The 1934 Dodge Convertible here is an incredible one-off creation, originally built for the Detroit Auto Show. This convertible design uses a massaged steel body with some fiberglass components, based on a boxed and reinforced Outlaw Performance Pro Street frame. Under the bonnet and visible through flared side openings is an 8.0L/488 HP Viper Gen II V-10 crate engine purchased new from Mopar.

It is installed for this application with custom air intakes, a Mopar ECU and a wiring harness custom made for this engine, with ceramic-coated, stainless steel custom headers and exhaust featuring Flowmaster mufflers and Borla exhaust tips. The car is plumbed with custom stainless lines, and the wiring is soldered and shrink wrapped. Keeping it cool, the radiator is a fitted, aluminum, four-tube version with a side-mount overflow and electric fan.

Featuring a sourced-from-Chrysler Tremec 6-speed manual transmission and a DTS 9-inch Ford differential with 3.73 gears, this classic ride utilizes Air-Ride Technologies air ride suspension on all four corners, with a 4-link rear suspension as well as power steering and power disc brakes. Covered in PPG Viper Red with a removable insulated black soft top, the steel and glass body work is cleanly executed. Changes include shaved door handles with Bear Claw latches, blended side mirrors, an electric decklid, chrome-plated aluminum grille and inset tail lamps.

The interior, including the gauge cluster, are sourced from an OEM Viper with seats that are custom-covered in red diamond plate and black leather, and modified so they don’t extend above the rear bulkhead when the top is removed. A custom IdidIt tilt steering column couples to a power rack-and-pinion unit, while the door panels and other components were fabricated by American Speed. Aluminum wheels (16×7 front and 16×10 rear) wrapped in BF Goodrich tires complete its upgrades, and the odometer displays the car’s mileage since the completion of the build. Today, this incredible Street Rod—still titled as a 1934 Dodge—has the level of sophistication that many desire but few achieve.

Whoever owns it next will certainly enjoy the uniqueness this special Dodge offers.
