After 18 years of secret development, the Citroën DS 19 was introduced in 1955 at the Paris Motor Show. In the first 15 minutes of the show, 743 orders were taken, and orders for the first day totalled 12,000.

When the DS was launched it pushed the boundaries in the "ride vs. handling' compromise equation beyond what was thought possible in a motor vehicle. The DS was the first mass produced car with front disc brakes. It also featured hydropneumatic suspension which included an automatic levelling system and variable ground clearance, power steering and a semi-automatic transmission.

Due to the fantastic ride of the DS it proved to be a successful rally car, where it was able to maintain amazingly high speeds on poor surfaces. The DS won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1959 and again in 1966, after the disqualification of the BMC Mini-Cooper team. In the 1000 Lakes Rally, Pauli Toivonen drove a DS19 to victory in 1962.The DS was voted 5th in Automobile Magazine's "100 Coolest Cars" in 2005. It was also named the most beautiful car of all time by Classic & Sports Car magazine after a poll of 20 world-renowned car designers.

Originally Imported from France in 2007, this DS has been used as a daily driver for the past 5 years and has been a successful participant in "Le Jog Hero' classic rally in 2009. During this time the vendor tells us that he has maintained the car regardless of cost. The mechanics are in great condition, a new stainless steel exhaust was fitted last year and the semi-auto hydraulics have been redone earlier this year along with a new clutch recently fitted to the car.

The vendor has tried to keep this DS as original as possible with it only being subject to running repairs. The car still retains its original engine along with its original interior however the interior as expected is showing sign of wear and tear we are told predominantly on the driver's seat.Featured in many car magazines over the past years, including a front cover of Auto-Express in 2009 this car comes with a great history file, which includes all the magazines it has appeared in.
