  • Accompanied by its original 1934 Pennsylvania Vehicle Registration slip as well as period spare parts and literature

The 1934 Chrysler Airflow CV is a remarkable piece of automotive history, distinguished by its groundbreaking design and engineering. Developed with the input of aviation pioneer Orville Wright, the Airflow featured a "truss bridge" chassis, one of the earliest examples of aircraft technology being employed in automotive design. This innovation not only contributed to its aerodynamic efficiency but also allowed for a more spacious and comfortable interior by placing the engine directly over the front axle. This design choice also enhanced the ride quality and cabin space, setting the Airflow apart from its contemporaries.

Despite its advanced technology and favorable press reviews, the Airflow faced a lukewarm reception from the public due to its unconventional appearance. Its bold, streamlined shape and other distinctive design elements were ahead of their time and did not resonate with prevailing tastes at the time. Consequently, production of the Airflow ceased after 1937, but it has since gained recognition and admiration among enthusiasts and collectors for its innovative features and historical significance.

The CV Imperial Airflow offered here showcases a meticulous older restoration via its classic maroon over tan and brown color scheme. The restoration is documented with notes and correspondence underscoring the care and precision involved when bringing this car back to its former glory. Incredibly, the Imperial Airflow retains its original Pennsylvania Vehicle Registration slip dated 30 November 1934, addressed to Ms. Minnie Cohe of Chester, Pennsylvania. This original registration slip, along with a wealth of period literature and spare parts, accompanies the sale.

Given the model’s loyal and enthusiastic following, top-quality Airflows do not often become available. This 1934 example, with its authentic period-correct details and thorough documentation, provides a rare opportunity to own and experience a true American automotive icon.
