This 1988 BMW M6 Coupe is a factory-built high-performance model engineered by the highly acclaimed BMW Motorsport, now known simply as BMW M. Voted by “Road & Track” magazine as “1 of the 10 fastest production cars in America” in 1987, the M6 was the personification of the “Gentleman’s Muscle Car.” Only 1,767 examples were built for the American market. The engine is BMW’s 24-valve inline 6-cylinder with Bosch fuel injection. This powerplant is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The suspension is fully independent, and stopping power is provided by a power-assisted 4-wheel anti-lock disc-brake arrangement.
The car is visually distinguished by its larger front air dam with integrated driving lights, M-Technic rear spoiler and M badging. This particular M6 has been upfitted with 3-piece BBS wheels with Michelin Sport Pilot tires, both of which are tasteful upgrades that contribute to improved handling and appearance while still maintaining the flavor of originality.
Although the M6 was applauded for its speed and cornering capability, it was equally adept as a comfortable touring car with all the requisite creature-comfort amenities expected in an expensive personal-luxury car, including dual-zone climate control, a full leather interior, electrically adjustable front sport seats, cruise control, dual-position sunroof, electric windows, electric door locks, tinted windows, BMW premium audio system, leather-covered shift knob and leather-covered steering wheel. Finished in a Schwarz Black exterior with contrasting silver gray full-leather interior, this BMW M6 with its slightly lowered stance presents as both masculine and refined.
