Nowadays, every major motor manufacturer has to have hybrid or all-electric models in the range, and in BMW's case the company even went so far as to launch a new brand – BMW i – to promote these more environmentally friendly cars. Flagship of the range, the i8 sports car was first seen in concept form at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, with the production version going on sale in April 2014. A plug-in hybrid, the i8 is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine driving the rear wheels, and an electric motor located within the front axle assembly.

Maximum outputs are 228 horsepower and 129 horsepower respectively, giving the i8 stunning acceleration - 0-60mph (0-97km/h) in under 5 seconds - and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph (250km/h). Built around a carbon fibre reinforced passenger cell, the sexy coupé body boasts 'butterfly' doors and has a commendably low drag co-efficient, reducing fuel consumption at high speeds, while a selection of driving modes helps manage the competing requirements of speed and economy.

First registered on 21st November 2014, this pristine example is finished in Sophistograu Brillanteffekt with blue, and has a dark grey leather interior. Noteworthy factory options include a large-capacity fuel tank; head-up display; DAB radio; and a Harmon Kardon audio system (full specification available). Delivered new in Germany, this car has had only two (German) owners and has covered a mere 38,000-or-so accident-free kilometres from new. Last serviced by BMW in February 2018, it is presented in excellent condition throughout and comes with all books and German registration papers. A landmark of motoring technology and surely a future classic.

• Manutenzione effettuata nel mese di febbraio 2018 Al giorno d'oggi, tutti i principali produttori di autovetture devono avere modelli ibridi o completamente elettrici nella gamma. BMW si è spinta al punto di lanciare un nuovo marchio - BMW i - per promuovere queste auto più rispettose dell'ambiente. Fiore all'occhiello della gamma, l'auto sportiva i8 è stata presentata per la prima volta in forma di "concept" al Salone di Francoforte del 2009, con la versione finale, in vendita dall'aprile 2014.

Un'ibrida plug-in, l'i8 è alimentata da un motore a benzina tre cilindri da 1,5 litri, turbocompresso, che aziona le ruote posteriori e un motore elettrico situato all'interno dell'insieme dell'asse anteriore. Le potenze massime sono, rispettivamente, di 228 cavalli e 129 cavalli, che danno alla i8 un'accelerazione incredibile, 0-100 km/h in meno di 5 secondi, e, una velocità massima limitata elettronicamente di 250 km/h.

Costruita intorno a una cellula per i passeggeri rinforzata in fibra di carbonio, la carrozzeria dalle forme sinuose vanta le porte con apertura a "farfalla" e ha un coefficiente di resistenza decisamente basso, per ridurre il consumo di carburante alle alte velocità, mentre una selezione elettronica delle diverse modalità di guida aiuta a gestire le esigenze in termini di velocità ed economia .

Immatricolata per la prima volta il 21 novembre 2014, questo esemplare, tutto originale, è finito in Sophistograu Brillanteffekt con il blu e ha un interno in pelle grigia scura. Tra le opzioni di fabbrica degne di nota, c'è il serbatoio del carburante di grande capacità, ripetizione delle informazioni sul parabrezza (head-up display), Radio DAB e sistema audio Harmon Kardon (tutte le specifiche della vettura sono disponibili). Consegnata nuova in Germania, questa auto ha avuto solo due proprietari (tedeschi) e ha coperto solo 38.000 (circa) chilometri da nuova e non ha mai subito incidenti. L'ultima manutenzione, presso BMW, nel febbraio 2018.

Presentata in ottime condizioni generali, viene fornita con tutti i libretti ed i documenti di immatricolazione tedeschi. Un punto di riferimento della tecnologia automobilistica e, sicuramente, una vettura che in futuro verrà considerata un classico.
