Alfa Romeo has long been commonly known for four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines powering their cars, but the Montreal is equipped with a 2.6-liter V-8. This engine has been said to overpower its competitors in its class with ease. The five-speed manual transmission contributes to making this car a joy to drive. As you hit the tach’s redline and shift through each gear, the engine has the pull to keep you pushed back in your seat.

The Montreal came with a wide range of paint options not previously available for other Alfa Romeo models. This particular vehicle is painted in Bianco (White) and its blue interior really gives off a sporty feel. Its overall design, which incorporates a wide stance, makes this car a blast to drive. It also has instrumentation in which the speedometer and distance traveled is registered in kilometers.

The sleek aerodynamic body style of the vehicle is a testament to the race history of the company. Phrases like a "racing engine in an evening gown" and "a true work of art" have been used to describe the car. It has functional air inlets located just past the rear of the doors and unique headlight arrangement behind movable slats.

The front grille has a look of determination; as if it has to prove to you it has more of everything than you expected. The rumble of the V-8 can only put a smile on your face and the torque at low revolutions per minute makes city driving quite enjoyable.

Alfa Romeo wasn’t planning on making a production model of the Montreal. Until, they received a swell of positive feedback, and demand for the model took off. Thus, in 1970 they released a production model of the gorgeous coupe; it was dubbed as “The dream car that came true.” The Montreal had a production run from 1970 through 1977 and during this timeframe, it is reported that on 3,917 similar cars were built.

Among the motoring press commentary, the Montreal received accolades such as being “among the most beautiful, potent and rare GT cars to wear the Alfa badge” – “the fastest, smoothest, quietest production Alfa Romeo ever made” and “riding that fine line between sports car and grand tourer, the Montreal is one of the most desirable Alfa Romeos ever made.” It is further speculated that only around 100 of these are in the United States. This vehicle is an original and it shows the pride its builders took in their work to create such a masterpiece.

This rare 1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal Coupe’ AR1425752 finished production at the Turin factory on December 29, 1971 and was sold new to the first owner on February 16, 1972 in Florence Italy. The car is finished in a gorgeous color combination of Bianco over Azzurro cloth. This car has lived in Italy its whole life until it was imported into Southern California in 2013 where it went through the California regulations and was then properly licensed and registered in California. The owner of the car was the President of the Alfa Romeo club in Italy where he used the car regularly for shows and meets.

The car has been properly maintained throughout its entire life and has recently undergone a full tune and rebuild on the SPICA injection system by a specialist. This Bertone designed V-8 Alfa Romeo reportedly comes with its original engine and 55,355-km on the odometer. These beautiful Bertone-bodied Montreal’s carried the race-bred V-8 engine that was unique to Alfa Romeo and rarely seen stateside.
