Bugatti Refuses Fake Engine Sound

Bugatti could have followed the modern formula for creating engine drama: let software and speakers do the work. Instead, the Bugatti Tourbillon was engineered around a much more traditional idea — its V16 should sound the way a true hypercar engine sounds.
That turned out to be a serious engineering challenge. The naturally aspirated 8.3-liter (506-cu-in) engine spins to 9,000 rpm, while still needing to remain comfortable in everyday driving and comply with strict noise regulations. Engineers ran thousands of simulations through the intake and exhaust systems to create a soundtrack that feels deliberately raw and slightly imperfect rather than artificially polished.
Most importantly, Bugatti avoided artificial engine sounds entirely. Nothing is played through the speakers. The noise heard inside the cabin comes mechanically from the powertrain, with the acoustic system designed to bring that genuine sound to the driver when desired.
After three years of development, the acoustic work is complete and homologation has been passed. As electric power makes extreme acceleration easier to achieve, Bugatti is betting that real mechanical sound can still define a hypercar.
Would you give up some performance for a better soundtrack? Does authentic engine noise still matter? And would artificial sound ruin the experience for you?
