Chassis No.: WVWZZZ1GZNW109223 Registration: J683 DYF SOLD Owned for 14 years by "Star Wars" and "Eastenders" actor Andrew Lawden | Sold Owned For • Owned for 14 years by "Star Wars" and "Eastenders" actor Andrew Lawden Watch introduction and full walkaround video here; https://youtu.be/scaawqAwwJw?si=6UM95x5Yqa9OqZ_H The second generation of the Volkswagen Golf and the successor to the Mk. I Golf, was launched in Europe at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1983. Sales began in its homeland and most other left hand drive markets soon after and debuted in March 1984 on the right hand drive British market. It was Volkswagen's highest volume seller from 1983 and ended (German) production in late 1992, to be replaced by the Golf Mk. III. The Mk. II was larger than the Mk. I, its wheelbase grew slightly by three inches, as did exterior dimensions. Weight was up accordingly by about 260lbs. Exterior design, developed in-house by Volkswagen design director Schäfer, kept the general lines of its Giugiaro-designed predecessor, but was slightly more rounded. The Mk. II was supplied with a wider range of engine options, including a GTD turbodiesel using the 1.6 ‘umwelt’ (ECO) diesel engine, a DOHC 1781cc 16-valve version of the straight-four GTi as well as the tried and tested 1781cc 8v GTi. All told, about 6.3 million second-generation Golfs were built. Known as the ‘run out model’, this 8v GTi is one of the last Mk. II Golf’s ever produced. This big bumper model is presented in red coachwork with a black leather trim and sitting on alloy sports wheels which our owner was informed were an option but in this case fitter later. Boasting power steering, the headlining has been renewed, and the leather seats have been restored, all of which are complemented by original mats. This car has been lovingly owned for 15 years with a raft of renovations and maintenance. Having been used as a daily driver, it was in constant use until ULEZ forced the sale. Our vendor informs us that everything has been kept original where possible except a Sony Bluetooth radio/CD player and hard rear parcel shelf. In 2016, a van reversed into the front of the car which resulted in a Category C insurance claim. At this point our vendor had the car repaired. The damage was to the grille, front of the wings, bonnet and spoiler/bumper, all were professionally restored and resprayed by Lightning Crash Repairs, Potters Bar, Herts. The bodywork today is described as very good, professionally polished with just a few minor scratches on the doors and a tiny chip professionally repaired on driver’s side windscreen. Offered with an MoT test certificate until January 2026, new front tyres and a good amount of tread to the rear. Our Vendor states the car starts first time and boasts a recent service with new battery, new starter motor, new distributor cap, rotor arm, HT leads, NGK spark plugs, radiator fan switches and coolant seals. The service was performed by classic car specialist, Micheal Bruce Engineering, Potters Bar. We are informed the heating cooling system works well, as do all switches and the heated rear screen, electric mirrors and front windows. The full-size spare wheel is present as is the original covers and car jack kit. Offered with two keys, alarm immobiliser with Cat 2 system, the original Volkswagen service manual, a part service history in large A4 folder, receipts and it even comes with two Haynes manuals. A chance to own a fabulous classic, owned for 14 years by "Star Wars" and "Eastenders" actor Andrew Lawden known also for his work on t.v 's "Topboy", " Murphy's Law ", "Prime Suspect 1973", Amazon prime's "Mr Mayfair " and "Pennyworth ", and most recently award winning comedy "Sumotherhood". Andrew has been a Golf Mk.2 fan for over 30 years, having owned four different models the GTi being the most recent and longest. In his work "best car for Theatre tours , film locations and comic con trips i have ever had ". Our vendor states he has really enjoyed this car, and will hate to see it go, having owned four Mk. II's over 30 years. A change of job and ULEZ means it’s time for someone else to enjoy it as much as he has. Used as his work car, it has been all over the country and he commented it is a great ride even with a full load, holds the road very well and can do 80mph easily (overtaking, of course!). Currently insured/valued for circa £10,000 in its current condition, these cars are becoming a rare find in good condition with values climbing. Cheap to insure on classic car insurance and a hoot to drive, a car that has averaged 7,500 miles a year… and it’s a Volkswagen so it has another 500,000 miles before its run in! Chassis No.: WVWZZZ1HZWW187052 Registration: R176 DWO Offered without reserve • History file containing 25 service stamps, original purchase invoice & a wealth of invoices • Single long-term owner for over 20 years • Offered from The Continental Performance Collection – Part II The Mk. III Golf GTi marked an important chapter in the evolution of Volkswagen's iconic hot hatch, combining the everyday practicality and solid build quality that made the Golf so successful with refined performance and long-distance comfort. By the end of production in 1998, the Mk. III had matured into a thoroughly accomplished all-rounder, offering effortless usability whilst remaining true to the GTI ethos that had captivated enthusiasts for over two decades. Finished in attractive Mystic Blue metallic over a beautifully preserved black interior, this late-production example has covered just 35,500 miles from new and is accompanied by an exceptional history file. Originally supplied as a company car, it was purchased by its sole long term user after little more than a year and remained in the same ownership for over two decades before joining The Continental Performance Collection, a carefully curated assemblage of significant European performance cars. The comprehensive history is a particular highlight, including the original dealer book pack, service book containing 25 service stamps, the original purchase invoice, numerous maintenance invoices, a complete run of historic MoT certificates, Volkswagen Certificate of Conformity, Volkswagen Heritage letter, original tax discs and both sets of keys. Remarkably, the car was serviced annually for over 20 consecutive years, with the majority of this work carried out by the same diligent independent garage, reflecting the exceptional level of care it has received throughout its life. Today, unmodified, low-mileage Mk. III GTis have become increasingly difficult to find, with many having succumbed to corrosion, modification or neglect. This remarkably original and meticulously maintained example represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest surviving examples of Volkswagen's often overlooked modern classic, offered from an excellent private performance car collection.
