    Rover P6 2000 TC, 1972

Chassis No.: 44614440B Engine No.: 44605004 Registration: LYB 505K Sold £2,830 | Sold The P6 was the sixth and the last of the 'P' designated Rover designs to reach production. The vehicle was marketed first as the Rover 2000 and with a completely new design, was intended to appeal to a larger number of buyers; the P5 was sold alongside the P6 until 1973. The 2000 was advanced for the time with a De Dion tube suspension at the rear, four-wheel disc brakes (inboard on the rear), and a fully synchromesh gearbox. The unibody design featured non-stressed panels bolted to a unit frame, similar to the Citroën DS. The Rover 2000 won industry awards for safety when it was introduced. The car featured all-round seat belts and a carefully designed 'safety' interior. One innovative feature was the prism of glass on the top of the front side lights, this allowed the driver to see the front corner of the car in low light conditions. The Rover P6 series was voted European Car of the Year in 1964; the very first winner of this title. Rover made an attempt to break into the North American market with the P6 beginning with the Rover 2000 TC. This delightful Rover 2000 was supplied originally in July 1972. Finished in Brown with grey trim and is described as being "as good as she looks" to drive. A desirable manual, Twin Carb example showing 53,187 which is privately owned and entered. Supplied with a V5 registration document, a current MoT test certificate valid until May 2023 and is offered without reserve. Guide price £6,000 - £9,000 https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/?lot=4393&au=77

    Rover P6 3500 S, 1973

Chassis No.: 48106344C Engine No.: 48106344C Registration: GYY 978L Launched at the 1963 Earls Court Motor Show, the P6, Rover’s internal project name, was aimed at the young executive who wanted modern, sporting, high quality transport. Winner of the European Car of the Year Award 1964, it had an advanced design that included a De Dion tube rear suspension, disc brakes all round and an alloy bonnet and boot lid. The early four-cylinder power plants remained conventional until the introduction of the fabulous Buick derived 3528cc V8 which joined the party in 1968, and it is one of those V8 powered motor cars offered today. A Borg Warner 35 automatic was the only transmission until the 1971 addition of a four-speed manual 3500 S model, fitted with a modified version of the gearbox used in the 2000/2200. The letter ‘S’ did not denote ‘Sport’, it was chosen because it stood for something specific on those cars: ‘Synchromesh’. However, it is important to note that the 3500 S was noticeably quicker than the automatic version of this car with a 0-60 mph time of 9 seconds, compared with 10.1 for the automatic car. First registered on 11th April 1973, the Rover P6 3500 S offered here presents incredibly well. Despite its 50 years age, the panelwork is exceptionally straight with the doors closing with a satisfying ‘clunk’. The chromework is in excellent condition with no signs of any pitting whatsoever to the bumpers or light cluster surrounds. The trim is all present and the underneath of the car is particularly clean and has recently benefitted from a specialist wax treatment. Sitting on Rover SD1 wheels and Dunlop SP Sports tyres, this example is fitted with the factory option of a ‘Continental Touring Kit’ which includes a strengthened aluminium boot lid to enable the option of carrying the spare wheel on top, thus freeing up space in the boot for luggage. The boot itself, as with the rest of the car, is very tidy and presents very well. The interior boasts the desirable ‘E.T.’ style headrests, unmarked boxpleat seats and original Rover optional rubber floor mats to both the front and rear. A genuine Rover wood rim steering wheel also adorns the car. Other interior highlights are the dashboard instrument lights all having just been serviced, a heated rear screen and front and rear inertia seat belts. The vendor reports the car to run and drive very well thanks to an uprated front anti-roll bar and the proven V8 benefitting from a large core aluminium radiator and stainless steel exhaust. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document, original green logbook, various old MoT test certificates, owners’ handbook, jack and toolkit. These versatile and ever popular British classics, with the lovely sounding V8 power unit, rarely come up for sale in such exemplary and original condition, a rare opportunity to own the best. https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/?lot=4225&au=76

    Rover P6 3500 V8, 1971

Chassis No.: 45104724A Engine No.: 42529932C Registration: ALG 215J The P6 model was launched at the 1963 Earls Court motor show and set new standards in refinement, performance and handling. Just one year later the Rover P6 was voted car of the year and later received the design council award for new standards in safety. 1968 saw the addition of the V8 model which proved popular with executives and the police alike who required a modern high performance quality car. In recent years the P6 V8 had been relatively unappreciated, however, this beautiful and very original time-warp example is sure to change that. First registered in June of 1971 this car was sold to accountant Mr Edgar Morris of Bootle in Liverpool. On appraisal he decided the car was too expensive to run on a day to day basis and thus decided to keep it for high days and holidays. He kept the car with its private plate EM 9999 for 25 years until he passed away and the car was sold to a family friend and long time admirer, having covered just 3,200 miles. The friend covered a mere 124 miles more in the next eight years, predominantly garaging the car and keeping it under cover. In 2004 the car was purchased and recommissioned, with the owner stating that everything was original. Finished in fabulous Davos White with Sandalwood trim, the car has not changed a great deal over the last 14 years and strikes you as possibly the best P6 you will ever find. All chrome, rubber and paintwork are exemplary, as is, understandably, the underside of the car. The door-shuts are very good and, we are informed, the engine performs very well. Offered with an MoT test certificate until May 2019, book pack and details of previous owners, we are confident this example will stand up to any inspection and therefore viewing is highly recommended. https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/?lot=8194&au=70
