    Rover 75 Connoisseur SE V8, 2005

Chassis No.: SARRXZLGJ5D000818 Engine No.: 20040464564682 Registration: RX05 AZW The Rover 75 was manufactured by Rover Group and later by MG Rover. The Rover 75 was available with front-wheel drive in either a saloon or estate body style and latterly, in long-wheelbase form and a rear-wheel drive, V8-engined specification. Rover 75’s were built at Cowley, Oxfordshire, for just a year when the owners at the time, BMW, divested its interests in Rover and the 75 was built by the new MG Rover Group at their Longbridge site in Birmingham. Production of the Rover and later MG badged models ceased on 8th April 2005 when manufacturer MG Rover Group entered administration. The Rover 75 V8 was created as a means of proving MG Rover's engineering expertise and to attract a development partner to the company. The car was extensively re-engineered to accommodate Ford's Modular V8 in 4.6 litre capacity, driving the rear wheels to give a car with much higher performance, taking advantage of the stiffening tunnel in the body structure. These cars were built on the standard production line and then removed to allow the necessary structural modifications to be carried out. The cars were then returned to the trimming lines for completion. Less than 900 models in the V8 format were produced in both saloon and tourer body styles. This immaculate and rare Rover was originally registered on 20th July 2005 and has only covered 2,494 miles from new. The Platinum Gold coachwork is totally original and is unmarked as is the grey leather interior. Open the door and she even smells like a new car. These luxurious cars from Rover are best described as a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’; they are exceptional to drive with all the correct attributes of comfort, style and speed. The 4601cc engine is a well-engineered and reliable unit that purrs in a way only a V8 can. Specification of RX05 AZW is of a high standard with leather trim, automatic transmission, air conditioning, satellite navigation, electrically adjustable and heated seats. Having been kept in a private collection for a number of years, it is now time for this Rover 75 to be offered to the open marketplace. Supplied with the original handbooks together with a V5C registration document this is a car that can be great fun to use or to keep as a potential future investment. https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/?lot=6462&au=55

    Rover P4 75 Mk. II, 1959

Chassis No.: 605900600 Engine No.: 605900659 Registration: 218 NPU Sold £5,660 | Sold Announced by Managing Director Spencer Wilks on 23 September 1949 the new Rover 75 was first displayed at the opening day of the Earls Court Motor Show on 28 September 1949. It featured unusual modern styling in stark contrast with the outdated Rover 75 (P3) it replaced. Gone were the traditional radiator, separate headlights and external running boards. In their place were a chromium plated grille, recessed headlights and a streamlined body the whole width of the chassis. The car's styling was derived from the then controversial 1947 Studebakers. The cars had a separate chassis with independent suspension using coil springs at the front and a live axle with half-elliptical leaf springs at the rear. The brakes on early cars were operated by a hybrid hydro-mechanical system but became fully hydraulic in 1950. Girling disc brakes replaced drums at the front from October 1959. Power came from a more powerful version of the previous model's 210 cc Rover IOE straight-6 engine now with chromium-plated cylinder bores, an aluminium cylinder head with built-in induction manifold and a pair of horizontal instead of downdraught carburettors. A four-speed manual transmission was used with a column-mounted gear lever which was replaced by a floor-mounted mechanism in September 1953. Dubbed as the poor man’s Rolls-Royce by the contemporary press, it was progressively restyled and remained in production until 1959. This Mk. II Rover P4 was originally purchased in Essex where it remained until 2018. In 2004 the car was placed into storage until 2012 when it was recommissioned and given an MoT. Between coming out of storage and being sold in 2018 the car was repainted. It was purchased by a specialist film and television vehicle hire company to be used as one of the principal villain’s cars in the DC Comics series ‘Pennyworth’. Before going on set the car was fully checked through, new tyres fitted and the front seat retrimmed. Finished in black with red interior, this Rover P4 is supplied with a UK V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in November 2021 and a file containing the old buff log book, old MoT test certificates up to 2003 and some invoices. It has been reported by the owner’s mechanic that it runs and drive very well as you would except from a car used in films and television where reliability is paramount. https://www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/?lot=6129&au=49
