It is additionally optioned with the factory-correct horn, grille-mounted fog lamps, polished wheels with detailed center caps, a leather-wrapped 380mm steering wheel and Pepita houndstooth seat inserts. Featuring the matching-numbers 2.2L horizontally opposed engine fitted with Weber carburetors, producing over 200 SAE HP and backed by the correct type 901 “dog-leg” 5-speed manual transmission, this Porsche 911S is a formidable performer, even by contemporary standards. By model year 1970, Porsche had made significant evolutionary changes to the first generation 911. High-speed stability and improved weight distribution was achieved through a 2.2-inch increase to the wheelbase. Handling and braking was improved with a 6-inch wheel width and wider contact patch on the top of the line 911S. Engine displacement was also increased from 2.0L to 2.2L, achieved through a larger bore size. The cumulative effect of these changes was transformative. The 2.2L engine provided additional torque and a wider power band, making the 1970 Porsche 911S an absolute joy to drive. The increased wheelbase vastly improved suspension dynamics by helping to alleviate the over-steer inherent to rear-engine weight bias design. The 4-wheel vacuum-assisted disc brake system stops the 911S with confidence-inspiring authority, while the front chin spoiler adds high-speed stability by providing the correct amount of downforce and limiting front end lift. This 1970 Porsche 911S comes complete with its tools and owner’s manual. https://www.mecum.com/lots/481058/1970-porsche-911s/

While the 911 would go on to become one of the longest-running, continually evolving sports cars of all time, one of its more unique variations first appeared in 1967. For much of its production life, convertible versions of the 356 were one of Porsche’s most popular and best-selling variants. However, while Porsche wanted the new 911 to also be able to tap into this lucrative market, the company was wary of the United States National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s growing opposition to full convertibles and their lack of rollover safety. Therefore, as a hedge against the rule makers, Porsche debuted the “Targa” version of the 911 in 1967. The new version of the 911 featured a stainless steel-clad roll bar behind the driver and passenger that could be enclosed for inclement weather by the combination of a removable roof panel and plastic rear window. A Southern California car since new, this 1971 Porsche 911T Targa is finished in black with a black leather interior with new black leather seats. The Porsche’s air-cooled 2.2L flat 6-cylinder engine, equipped with Zenith 40 carburetors, was rebuilt by noted Porsche specialist Alan Johnson Racing in San Diego, California, and comes with supporting receipts. The engine’s power is transmitted to the Fuchs alloy wheels by Porsche’s unique “Sportomatic” clutchless 4-speed manual transmission, No. 210571, which has been serviced by Porsche specialists Black Forest, with the shift linkage rebuilt and the automatic clutch serviced during the process. The car also received a tune-up and carburetor service. Other noteworthy features of this stylish 911T include air conditioning, a correct dual-battery system, Bilstein shocks and strut inserts, tinted glass, a rear window defogger and a Jensen AM/FM cassette stereo. The car is also accompanied by an owner’s manual, receipts and service records, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1095353/1971-porsche-911t-targa/

    Porsche 911T Targa, 1972

Chassis No.: 9112111511 Auction: Monterey 2024 Auction date: August 17, 2024 Lot No.: F69 $100,000 | High bid • Odometer: 57,807 miles • Engine: Other • Transmission: Manual • Exterior: Blue • Interior: Black • Body: Targa • 2.4L Flat 6-cylinder engine • Resealed engine • Fuel injection pump rebuilt • 5-speed manual transmission • Blue exterior repainted in 2021 • Original paint stripped and factory-correct paint applied • Windshield and glass removed for repaint • Removable fiberglass Targa top • Black leather interior • New Porsche dash • Steering wheel leather replaced to match factory leather • Bucket seats • VDO gauges • AM/FM radio • Replacement exterior rubber and trim • Door weather stripping replaced • Replacement fuel pump • Garage kept While the development of the 6-cylinder 911 was lengthy, the basic design proved extremely adaptable to updates and upgrades. Remaining in production well beyond the most optimistic expectations of Porsche executives, the 911 also formed the basis of the company’s racing program after the 917 prototypes were rendered obsolete by FIA rule changes. While Detroit’s Big Three and Porsche’s European rivals struggled with varying degrees of success during the early 1970s to comply with tightening U.S. emissions regulations, Porsche’s engineering wizards managed to improve the 911’s performance. Offsetting somewhat lower compression ratios favoring unleaded gasoline, Porsche raised engine displacement to 2.2 and then 2.4 liters (2341cc) by 1972. Mechanical fuel injection was added beginning in 1972 for examples of the 911T destined for the United States and certain Asian markets. In addition to the heightened performance offered by the 2.4L cars of 1972-73, the stronger Type 915 gearbox was utilized. Derived from that used by Porsche’s 908 racing cars, the new gearbox also introduced a more conventional “H” shifting pattern. While the 911 “S” and “E” models may have carried higher power ratings, the 911T was a surprisingly strong performer with a remarkably wide and usable power band. Acceleration from rest to 60 MPH was achieved in just 8.0 seconds and top speed approached 130 MPH. In contrast to the high-strung 911S, Road & Track testers also found the 911T delivered exceptional drivability and all-around flexibility in real-world driving conditions. For those buyers seeking more, the 911T was available with all 911S options, except for the engine. Finished in blue, a color scheme complemented well by the black interior, this 1972 Porsche 911T is powered by a 2.4L flat 6-cylinder engine paired to a 5-speed manual transmission/rear transaxle. A removable targa top provides unique looks and all-weather versatility. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1124543/1972-porsche-911t-targa/
