Gunther Werks Builds a 9,000-RPM Monster

California-based restomod specialist Gunther Werks has unveiled the GXR-Evo, its lightest and fastest naturally aspirated build yet. Based on the air-cooled 993-generation Porsche 911, the extreme restomod weighs just 2,386 lb / 1,082 kg—210 lb / 95 kg less than the company’s standard coupe. At its heart is a Rothsport Racing-developed 4.0-liter naturally aspirated air-cooled flat-six that revs to nearly 9,000 rpm and produces 455 hp / 461 PS. Power reaches the rear wheels through a classic Getrag G50 six-speed manual transmission. The approximately 167.7-inch / 4.26-meter-long machine wears bespoke carbon-fiber bodywork designed for serious track performance. Dive planes, front-fender vents, a large rear wing, roof-mounted shark fin and rear diffuser all contribute to increased downforce. The chassis is equally serious, featuring unequal-length front control arms, three-way adjustable remote-reservoir dampers, Brembo Pista race brakes and magnesium center-lock wheels. Inside, the stripped-back cabin gets Racetech carbon-Kevlar seats with six-point harnesses, a Motec digital dashboard and a helmet cooling system. Production will be limited to just 15 examples, with each car accompanied by a matching custom simulator. Is the GXR-Evo more desirable than a modern factory GT3 RS? Can an air-cooled Porsche still make sense as a dedicated track weapon? And does a naturally aspirated flat-six paired with a manual gearbox remain the ultimate sports-car formula? American Buyers Save the Manual 911

As performance cars increasingly turn to dual-clutch transmissions, American enthusiasts have managed to keep the traditional manual alive. The 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S was initially planned as an automatic-only model, but Porsche Cars North America pushed German executives to reconsider after seeing strong demand for three-pedal sports cars. The result is a six-speed manual version offered exclusively in North America. Power comes from the familiar twin-turbo flat-six, producing 473 hp / 480 PS. While an automatic gearbox can deliver quicker acceleration and lap times, many U.S. buyers still value the direct connection and involvement provided by a clutch pedal and manual shifter. That demand is backed by real sales data. Manual take-rates remain particularly strong among Porsche performance models, reaching around 80 percent for the GT3 Touring. The Carrera S weighs approximately 3,327 lb / 1,509 kg and comes equipped with rear-axle steering and center-lock wheels. Porsche’s decision shows that the manual transmission may not be disappearing as quickly as expected—at least when customers are willing to put their money behind their preferences. But does driver involvement matter more than shaving fractions of a second from acceleration times? Can manuals survive as sports cars move toward hybrid and electric power? And should manufacturers pay closer attention to what enthusiasts demand? Comment, like & share 🔥

    Porsche Built a One-Off Slant-Nose 911

Porsche spent three years transforming a 2018 911 GT2 RS into the Porsche Flachbau RS, a road-legal one-off inspired by the legendary “Moby Dick” flat-nose design. Created by Porsche’s Sonderwunsch division with help from Manthey engineers, the project features a reshaped front end, ultra-thin LED headlights, and a huge rear wing. At 211 mph / 340 kph, that wing generates an incredible 1,221 lbs / 554 kg of downforce over the rear axle. Under the dramatic bodywork sits the original 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six, producing 700 hp / 710 PS. The owner clearly valued performance over comfort. Porsche removed the stereo, satellite navigation, and sound insulation, cutting nearly 70 lbs / 32 kg from the car. The result is an exceptionally loud, raw machine that brings classic slant-nose styling into the modern era. Would you want Porsche to offer road-legal slant-nose conversions for modern 911s? Or should designs like this remain rare one-off creations? And would you really give up the radio for 70 pounds of weight savings?
