However, in 1994, Ferrari unveiled a heavily revised evolution of the 348, which warranted a change in nomenclature. This new Ferrari would be called the F355. Built on a steel monocoque with tubular steel subframe, the new F355 featured a 90-degree V-8 engine that was enlarged to 3.5L and now featured redesigned heads sporting 5-valves per cylinder (thus the new 355 designation signifying “3.5” liters of displacement and “5” valves per cylinder). This better-breathing engine, combined with Bosch Motronic 2.7 electronically controlled fuel injection, now produced an impressive 375 HP at 8,250 RPM and 268 lb-ft of torque. Longitudinally mounted in the chassis, the F355’s new engine came mated to either a conventional 6-speed manual transmission, or later, Ferrari’s Formula 1-derived electrohydraulically automated manual paddleshift gearbox. Rounding out the new design, the F355 also featured fully independent suspension by unequal length wishbones, with electronically controlled, gas-filled coil-over shocks, which could be changed in the cockpit between “Comfort” and “Sport” mode. This potent mechanical package was then clothed in either a Berlinetta or Spider body designed by Pininfarina that benefited from over 1,800 hours of wind tunnel testing. The result was a normally aspirated V-8 Ferrari capable of going from 0-60 MPH in just 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 183 MPH. The example on offer is a 1998 Ferrari F355 Spider with just 28,871 miles on the odometer. Finished in Giallo Modena with a Nero leather interior, this F355 is powered by a 3.5L/375 HP V-8 engine and 6-speed manual transaxle with gated shifter. It’s further features include a power-operated convertible top, 4-wheel disc brakes with Ferrari-script calipers, five-spoke 18-inch magnesium wheels, air conditioning, power seats and an Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1130405/1998-ferrari-f355-spider/
