New Dacia Sandero Will Go Electric — But Not Fully
The next-generation Dacia Sandero is set to arrive in 2028 with both electric and petrol-based powertrains, making it the first Renault Group model planned from the outset for this kind of multi-energy approach. Dacia says the market is not ready to go fully electric yet, so hybrid technology is expected to remain important. The new Sandero will also return with a tougher, raised Dacia Sandero Stepway version. Rather than adopting Renault’s dedicated EV architecture, the Sandero is expected to use an adapted CMF-B platform capable of supporting hybrid and electric systems. This should help Dacia keep costs under control while bringing EV technology to a wider audience. The brand is also working toward a shared design language, meaning petrol and electric versions could look almost identical. The EV may receive subtle aerodynamic changes, including a smoother grille and possibly flush door handles. Powertrains could be borrowed from the Renault Clio, Duster and Jogger. A detuned 1.8-liter hybrid is currently expected to be the main combustion option, although Renault’s TCe petrol engine remains possible. The EV could use technology from the Renault 5 and Twingo, including smaller battery packs aimed at affordability. Could Dacia make an affordable EV without sacrificing practicality?
