Offered from collector care and finished in silver with bold black graphics, black upholstery with contrasting white stitching and “SRT-8” emblems, this 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 392 features power delivered by a 392 CI Hemi V-8 engine packing 470 HP and 470 lb-ft of peak torque at just 2,900 RPM. Performance figures quoted by Chrysler include 0-60 MPH times in the high 4-second range and 12 seconds through the quarter-mile. The Hemi’s power is capably delivered by a 5-speed automatic transmission with a classic “Pistol-Grip” shift lever. Excellent ride and handling characteristics are courtesy of a set of improved firm-ride shock absorbers, recalibrated suspension geometry and updated steering gear. Delivering a more enjoyable driving experience than ever before, the Challenger SRT-8 392 was praised for its nimble handling characteristics and ability to reach 0.93 G of lateral acceleration on the skid pad when pushed to the limit. Engineers endowed the SRT8’s 392 with increased compression and a longer stroke to improve breathing and crank horsepower up from 425 to 470 HP at 6,000 RPM and bump torque to 470 lb-ft at 4,800 RPM. Behind that new 392 was the familiar choice of transmissions: the 6-speed manual and 5-speed TorqueFlite automatic, the latter packaged with the cylinder deactivation programming formerly preserved for the 5.7L non-SRT Hemi. In either case, the SRT8 392 driver is treated to an iconic pistol-grip shifter. Building on the 392’s increased power, SRT engineers turned to the chassis setup, installing Brembo brakes, revising the sway bars, bushings and dampers, and adjusting static camber for improved cornering. A new heavy-duty hydraulic power steering pump offered quicker response and added more precise steering feel to complement the car’s increased nimbleness.
