BMW E24 635 Group A homage-Auction Lot, 1984
Not Sold Well-engineered and delightfully accurate recreation of a famous racer. Superbly engineered and correctly presented homage to a Berger/ Marlboro FIA Group 'A', 635. Built by Geoff Steel Racing over winter 2015/2016 for the Peter Auto Heritage Touring Car series. Original E24 shell from Italian 635. Stripped and dipped. Rebuilt full-race engine-310bhp, 5-speed box, T45 cage, 100-litre fuel cell, FIA safety equipment. Supplied fully homologated, with FIA papers, ready to race. Silverstone Auctions are delighted to offer this BMW/Marlboro 635 E24 homage to a Group A car. It's based on an original 12-valve (M30B35) engined E24 635CSi purchased from Southern Italy as a road legal car in very good condition and the conversion to a full-blown racer was entrusted to Geoff Steel Racing over the winter of 2015/16 with the brief that the new owners wanted to recreate the famous Marlboro/BMW 'Group A' Touring Car as driven by Gerhard Berger in 1985 and use it to compete in the Peter Auto Heritage Touring Car series. Whilst an Italian road car may be a strange place to begin if you want to race an Historic Touring Car, there is an argument to be made that this is the best place to start. It's not an original competition car so you don't have to worry about originality and can actually get on with driving the thing, it will be fully FIA compliant and can be raced almost anywhere, and it's built to a spec and finish that authentically replicates the original Marlboro cars enabling you to enjoy the full Gerhard Berger experience without worrying about damaging something of national significance. In addition, as every bit of the car will be freshly restored, inspected, and maintained it ought to be reliable. The car was completely stripped and the bodyshell was dipped to remove any remaining organic matter. After preparation, it was fitted with a T45 FIA specification full cage and the car was painted white ready to accept the decals and graphics appropriate to the correct 'Marlboro' finish. It was then built up by GSR in the normal way and fitted with a fully rebuilt 310bhp engine, a rebuilt FIA Group A specification gearbox, a new FIA specification 100-litre capacity fuel cell, and all the appropriate safety equipment to comply with FIA requirements and the current race regs. The car currently weighs 1200kgs and is said to have passed the full Historic Technical Passport check first time and the papers issued. Geoff Steel Racing also ran the car with a number of top ten finishes in the European Group A season, including an impressive 2nd at Spa in 2016 and 2nd at the Algarve Classic in 2017, standing 3rd in Group A going into the final round. This year, the car was competitive at Donnington in the Motor Racing Legends Touring Car Challenge and it's worth mentioning that it is eligible for the Motor Racing Legends round at Silverstone during the Classic weekend. This classic BMW is a delightfully accurate recreation of a famous racer but is also a really well-engineered Touring Car and would undoubtedly be a contender in the right hands. https://www.iconicauctioneers.com/1984-bmw-e24-635-group-a-touring-car-rec08058-1-0718?pn=0&el=9422&pp=0

BMW M635 CSi (E24)-Auction Lot, 1985
Chassis No.: WBAEE320300760250 Engine No.: 42713692 Not Sold • Transmission: Manual • Body Colour: White Four seats, gorgeous looks and 286bhp, the M635 CSi embodied the ultimate symbiosis of luxury and high-performance in the mid-eighties. Elevating its stylish, elegant 6-Series from a luxurious GT to an outright supercar capable of mixing it with contemporary Porsches and Ferraris, BMW launched the M635CSi at the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show. Designed by BMW's Motorsport division, the M6 was powered by essentially the same 24-valve M88 straight-six as featured in the mid-engined M1, except for having wet sump lubrication, a higher 10.5:1 compression ratio and Bosch's latest ML-Jetronic fuel injection. With a close-ratio, Getrag five-speed gearbox, the only transmission available, the M6 also boasted Bilstein dampers, higher spring rates and a lower ride height to sharpen up the handling, plus a ZF. limited-slip diff to handle the 286bhp on tap. Make no mistake, this big BMW was a seriously quick motor car, with 0-60 mph dispatched in six seconds flat on the way to a top speed of more than 150 mph. Keeping all this performance in check were cross-vented disc brakes with ATE four-pot callipers and ABS was standard. Unlike most supercars, the M6 added the practicality of a cabin capable of seating four adults in comfort, plenty of luggage space in the boot, and relatively moderate running costs (for a Supercar!). The Recaro front seats and Motorsport steering wheel also set the model apart from lesser 6-Series and its M-Sport identity added muscle to the BMW's lithe styling, with discreet 'M' badges and wider alloy rims filling out the flared arches. A driver's car par excellence, the ultimate 6-Series derivative has always been sought after and thanks to its rarity (just 5,859 were built), its status as a classic is assured. Supplied new in September 1985 by H E Averill & Sons (BMW) Norwich to Mr R Fawn, this Alpine White M635 CSi is in outstanding time warp condition throughout and has never been welded or repaired. With a current recorded mileage of 53,355 and a comprehensive and known history from day one, this appreciating modern classic with just four former keepers has clearly led a cherished life supported by the comprehensive service records and MOT certificates that detail its motoring adventures to date (further information is available upon request). A fresh MOT inspection has just been undertaken with new certificate issued without advisories. Recent expenditure includes a complete wheel refurbishment and bearing in mind the originality of this particular M635, a brand new set of correct Michelin TRX tyres have been fitted, it should also be noted that the original radio accompanies the vehicle. With just 522 right-hand drive examples of the M635 CSi produced, and few remaining in this condition, this rare and desirable BMW will be welcome within any collection or showing its heels out on the open road. Your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to truly appreciate this exceptional ‘Shark Nose’. https://www.iconicauctioneers.com/1985-bmw-m635-csi-rec11345-1-sywell-0522?pn=0&el=18051&pp=0
