Toyota’s legendary Land Cruiser began life in 1951 as the Japanese marque’s interpretation of the Jeep. Produced in convertible, hardtop, station wagon and cab chassis versions, its reliability and longevity have led to huge popularity, especially in Australia where it continues to be the bestselling body-on-frame four-wheel drive vehicle. Toyota also extensively tests the Land Cruiser in the Australian outback, considered to be one of the toughest operating environments in both temperature and terrain. The Land Cruiser 80 series was unveiled in October 1989 at the Tokyo Motor Show and launched in early 1990. It had swing-out back doors, which were replaced by a winch door in 1994.
The J80 was initially offered in two versions in these countries: the fully loaded VX and an entry level model that included a vinyl interior with optional air conditioning.
The ultimate example of combining comfort with durability and off-road ability, these Toyota Land Cruisers have formed an incredible reputation and following. This 4.2 litre in-line six-cylinder diesel engines are incredibly robust and regularly cover 300,000 miles before major maintenance. Hardly used recently due to the delivery of a more modern V8 version, our vendor has decided to move this fantastic Land Cruiser on to a new home. Very solid, with only age-related blemishes here and there, this example is in very good condition overall, with its interior presenting in especially excellent condition. Boasting a new set of tyres, two new batteries, freshly serviced with the cambelts replaced and comes supplied with a comprehensive service history and family ownership from new.
