Built by Toyota for the head of Toyota Australia, this FJ-60 Land Cruiser has only covered a scant 1,260 kilometers from new. Offered on an Illinois title, the unique Land Cruiser is powered by a 4.0L Turbo Diesel engine with a 4-speed automatic transmission and 4-wheel drive. A right-hand drive version, the SUV is equipped with power windows, power locks, air conditioning, cruise control, an AM/FM/Cassette stereo system and an in-dash clock among its many amenities. Presented in white with a rear spare tire carrier and extensive brush guard protection, the FJ boasts other unique features like Hella fog lamps and a built-in ice maker.
The two-tone gray and black interior features quilted deluxe cloth upholstery with vinyl detailing and is complete with soft, tailored sheepskin seat covers. Drivers will appreciate the full instrumentation and exceptional visibility afforded by these very popular Toyotas. Referred to as a station wagon in Toyota parlance, it all began in 1967 with the FJ-55, a true five-door SUV in the classically proportioned long roof design. For the 1980 model year, Toyota introduced the revised and improved FJ-60.
While it bore a resemblance to the outgoing FJ-55s, the new 60 featured contemporary styling and improved creature comforts to compete in the SUV segment that was growing at an alarming rate with vehicles like the Land Rover Range Rover, Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Chevrolet/GMC Suburban selling in healthier numbers than ever before. While the FJ-60 competed more readily with a higher degree of comfort and convenience, Toyota improved its off-road prowess with an improved frame and chassis system.
The FJ-60 remained popular with customers through 1990, giving the competition a serious run for the money and providing customers a remarkably unique vehicle offering both luxury and ruggedness all in one. This FJ-60 on offer is remarkably unique due to its one-off nature and historic provenance of having been built for the head of Toyota Australia.
