This 2010 Toyota Camry NASCAR racer is one of two cars fielded by Rusty Wallace Racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Rusty Wallace Racing and Toyota began their relationship in 2010 in a combined quest to win the Nationwide Series. Wallace, who owned Toyota dealerships at the time, used the partnership to represent the Toyota brand on a larger scale. For two seasons, the cars were driven by Rusty’s son Steve Wallace and Brendan Gaughan. The team finished 10th and then ninth in points over the next two years but lack of sponsorship would result in RWR closing its doors and bowing out of the Nationwide Series the following year.
This car was built by RWR in Mooresville, North Carolina, and has recently had the exterior graphics changed from the previous “5-Hour Energy” livery to black with flames. The body is in great condition all around and has fuel-tank access on both rear quarter-panels making it suitable for road racing. The interior of the car is all business. Pro Comp gauges help the driver keep an eye on the vitals of the car during competition and a full roll cage keeps the driver safe and helps to stabilize the frame during cornering. A 360 CI V-8 engine, developed by Toyota Racing Development, is topped by an Edelbrock induction system fed by a cowl-induction air cleaner.
Typically for a NASCAR racer engine, access and servicing is quick and easy. The engine compartment and remainder of the car is very clean with little, if any, oil or rubber residue. A 4-speed manual transmission transfers power to the Goodyear Eagle racing tires and is controlled by a C&R Racing shifter. This is a great example of a versatile weekend racer for competitive or casual racing. Finishing touches on the car include Rusty Wallace Racing badging and both Rusty and Steve Wallace’s signatures on the dashboard.
