Presented at the same time as the Modus 2, the Operandi was the utility version of this concept van designed to be driven in cities. It followed on from the first Modus, unveiled in 1994, and with its huge windscreen offered a modular design which was more attractive than the sometimes austere-looking conventional utility vehicles. Whereas the Modus concept van in the collection has no interior fittings, the Operandi is more fully developed and has folding seats covered in orange fabric, a futuristic dashboard and storage arrangements in the rear compartment that explore different ways of using the available space. Access is by means of a pair of rear doors which open concertina-style.
Amusingly, the car’s registration plate refers to the year it was presented. With no engine, this van cannot be driven or registered for use on the road, but it represents an interesting foray into the realm of utility vehicles, one that is rarely explored by concept cars.
