Customs cleared vehicle Ivorian registration title Certificate of authenticity from Peugeot, Ivorian services and RACB This is not just any Peugeot 504 Coupé V6, this car has benefited from a factory preparation carried out by Peugeot SARI Ivory Coast, with parts coming directly from the racing department of Sochaux. To our knowledge, it is the only Peugeot 504 Coupé V6 Gr. 4 “competition client”! Its history is clear and perfectly documented.
The car is in total historical conformity with its “factory” reinforced rally body, its very rare and very expensive factory reinforced suspensions, its Danielson 225 hp type engine with modified camshafts and cylinder heads, and its factory ZM rally gearbox. Also sold with its steering wheel, two original houndstooth buckets and four original sheet metal wheels. With a solid record of achievements, it was sold to Adolphe Choteau, Cote d’Ivoire Rally Champion, on 30 December 1977 in this mahogany brown metallic colour N°598.
At its wheel, he took part in the 78 Bandama Rally (abandoned 28 km from the finish) and in 1979 in the 3A Rally, the Boucle du Cacao (3rd), the Pentecost Rally, the Bandama Rally (abandoned due to a mechanical breakdown) and the Rallye des Mille Pistes! This car was then driven by Adolphe Choteau’s son in the World Rally Championship. Jean-Marc Choteau took part in the Rallye de Côte d’Ivoire (ex-Bandama) in 1980, 1981 and 1982! After its last participation in 1982 with Jean-Marc Choteau(Jr) and A.M.
Blanc N°23, the car joined Adolphe Choteau’s collection and remained there until Hervé Charbonneaux rediscovered it alongside other rally glories in 2005. (Notably the Audi Quattro Gr. 4 ex Michele Mouton!) It will remain as is until its complete restoration in 2013. Bare sheet metal, 100% restoration of the mechanics at Bernard Decure - ex Peugeot Talbot Sport engine builder and 24 Hours of Le Mans driver notably on the Alpine A310 V6 Poisson Dieppois! The factory suspensions were completely overhauled in the Var region of France by a specialist with the help of Peugeot Sport Officiel. The restoration also received the help and precious advice of Jean-Pierre Nicolas!
After its restoration in 2014, it will be an opener at the Rallye du Sénégal Historique. It will do the 5th time of the prologue! The car has never done another rally since and the engine has only 500 km. Adolphe Choteau, known as Le Vétéran or Monsieur Choteau, was a Franco-Ivorian rally driver, born on 20 August 1927 in Tourcoing and died on 6 April 2018. He finished three times in the top five in a World Rally Championship event, in 1988, 1989 and 1991. He is the oldest competitor to have stood on a WRC podium, at 62 (on 2 November, in Abidjan).
He took part in the Ivorian rally 22 times over 25 years, between 1973 and 1998 (aged 71), including 13 in the WRC from 1978 to 1991 (being absent from the World Rally Championship only in 1982 and 1992)| in 1981 and 1983, he was given the opportunity to contest the event in an Audi Quattro (Gr.4), and then to obtain one of the cars previously driven by Michèle Mouton for the 1985 and 1986 seasons.
