1956 was the last year of Packard Caribbean production. Packard pulled out all the stops to make the Caribbean one of America's most powerful and luxurious automobiles. Just 276 Packard Caribbean convertibles were built in 1956, each of them powered by Packard's 374/310 HP overhead valve 4-barrel V-8. Each was equipped with Packard’s exclusive push-button Ultramatic automatic transmission, which has rightly come to be regarded as the best automatic produced in Detroit at that time.
In addition to the long list of standard Caribbean features, which included power windows, power steering and brakes, radio, heater, padded dash, dual power antennas, fender skirts and chromed wire wheels with Whitewall tires, this 1956 Packard Caribbean convertible is one of just 16 equipped with factory air conditioning. Meticulously restored over a three-year period around 2005, it has earned an AACA National First Prize at Hershey and Best in Class at the Greenwich Meadowbrook and Radnor Hunt Concours. Its Black paint is deep and lustrous; all brightwork has been comprehensively prepared and re-chromed.
The interior features soft Black leather with Pumpkin accents, with Black cloth on the reverse side of the seat cushions and backs, complemented by the Gold anodized dashboard, Black cloth top and Blue cover. Thoroughly and accurately restored to better than new condition without going to extremes, this is a rare and significant example of the top of the line in the last year of full-size Packard production.
