This unrestored, almost entirely original 1956 Packard Caribbean convertible is number 268 of just 276 built that year, and it is in impeccable cosmetic and mechanical condition, having been driven just over 50,000 miles since new and never being exposed to the elements; in fact, it has never even been left outside overnight! Its original paint – a unique triple serving of Dover White, Scottish Heather and Maltese Grey, has had only minor touch ups over the years to keep it in pristine condition. The original 374/310 HP engine is fitted with dual Rochester 4-barrel carburetors and mated to a push-button automatic transmission.
It has been disassembled and all clearances found to be well within factory tolerances, with almost no visible wear to bearings and other mating surfaces. Many other components have also been examined for originality and correctness, including the reversible seat cushion covers and convertible top, whose lining is upholstered to match the interior – an interesting feature exclusive to the Caribbean. Both are proven original and in excellent condition but were nonetheless substituted with meticulously-made duplicate replacements; the original pieces will be included with the sale.
Every component on this outstanding example works just as it did the day it left the factory, including the clock, radio, self-adjusting suspension and power antennas.
