The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG roadster and coupe were the first models designed and developed entirely by the in-house high-performance division AMG. The limited-production roadster made its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show as a 2012 model, followed up the Sport Light Super gullwing coupe as the open-top standard bearer of Mercedes-Benz design and performance. This first-year Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster is one of only 884 produced for 2012 and it has logged a mere 13,248 miles on its odometer. With dual overhead camshafts, a forged crankshaft, 32-valves and a dry-sump oil system, the 6.2L AMG V-8 is rated for 563 HP at 6,800 RPM and 479 lb-ft of torque at 4,750 RPM.
Its 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission delivers near-instantaneous gear changes and V-8 power through the limited-slip differential and rear wheels. The lightweight aluminum spaceframe is equipped with aluminum double-wishbone front and rear independent suspension and stabilizer bars. Inside the flow-formed alloy wheels, 4-wheel disc brakes utilize grooved and perforated two-piece vented rotors with red 8-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers to scrub off paddle-shifted V-8 forward velocity. The aluminum roadster body is finished in deep Obsidian Black with a black top that retracts in just more than 11 seconds at speeds up to 30 MPH.
Designo Classic Red leather with carbon-fiber trim envelops the cockpit with refined grand touring appointments. Console-mounted adaptive 3-mode AMG Ride Control enables driver-adjustable suspension refinement from comfort to sport plus, and the 1,000-watt Bang and Olufsen audio system is ready to supplement AMG V-8 sound. This modern and worthy AMG descendant of the original Mercedes-Benz 300SL roadster can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds on its way to an electronically limited 197 MPH top speed.
