This mechanically sound southern survivor from the last year of production for the 380SL looks,runs and drives well. While new wood trim has been installed, the dash was removed and sent to California for refurbishing and the aftermarket radio that was fitted by a prior owner has been replaced by a period correct Becker radio, interior is clean and remains essentially stock. Exterior paint still reflects a good shine, overall, but scratches and wear are present and consistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle.
Sale includes two keys, original owner's manual, set of top removal tools, manual hardtop hoist with hardtop covers, car cover suitable for outdoors and a binder of maintenance invoices provided by previous owners plus current owner's invoices for the more than $18,000 in work represented by the items marked with (*) below. Car was acquired by current owner 12/19/12 with a non-working odometer showing 189,281 miles. While the odometer was repaired upon acquisition, it appears that it had not been functioning correctly for most of the period from 2009 through 2012, so total mileage is unknown.
Seller has added slightly more than 20,000 miles during the past 10+ years with just over 210,000 miles currently reflected. Based on Carfax data and maintenance records, this car spent most of its first 187,000 miles or so in Virginia followed by a few years in Tennessee and now New York where it has been garage kept since seller's 2012 acquisition. This cruiser shows beautifully and is in good mechanical condition as a result of the significant maintenance items that have been completed during current and prior ownership. It is noted that, while the AC system has worked intermittently in the past, it is not currently blowing cool air.
While this SL sparked the current owner's passion for vintage vehicles, a lack of garage space has driven the decision to offer for sale.
