A superb example. 28,000 miles and a main dealer service history. Delivered by Puttocks Mercedes-Benz of Guildford on the 18/04/2000. The SL500's silky-smooth V8 engine is legendary for its subtle performance. The main dealer service history corroborates the mileage of some 27,915 miles (atoc) Treated to a comprehensive schedule of detailing works some 100 miles ago. Presented to auction with an extensive history file. One of the finest examples on the market. From a long lineage of beautiful Mercedes-Benz SLs, the R129-series was introduced in 1989 and continued the company's tradition of fast and reliable grand touring convertibles.
Developed from the earlier R107 500SL, the brand new design was powered by a 5.0-litre V8 engine producing some 302 bhp. The new model also featured an expanding roll-over bar, a fully electric hood, electric seats, mirrors, anti-lock brakes and a multi-link rear axle. A facelift of the R129 was carried out in 1995 which included revisions to the headlights, rear lights and automatic climate control. This particular right-hand drive Mercedes-Benz SL500 is finished in Tourmaline Green Metallic with a Mushroom leather interior and Burr Walnut trim.
The first stamp in the service book would suggest that the car was ordered, rather glamorously, through the Mercedes-Benz dealer on the Champs-Elysee, Paris, but delivered through Mercedes Benz Puttocks in Guildford, where it received its first service on 11th April 2000 having covered only 20 miles. This car was ordered with an incredible list of options including a glass roof, Adaptive Damping System (ADS) with Skyhook, Xenon headlights with cleaning equipment, a fire-extinguisher, multi-contour, heated electric seats with memory and pulse functions and an automatically dipping rearview mirror to name but a few.
Maintenance duties on this wonderful car have always been carried out at Mercedes-Benz main dealers as seen in the Service Book which now displays a total of 8 stamps and can be found in the car's comprehensive history file along with the related invoices. The black electric roof is in superb condition as is the body-coloured hardtop. Supplied with a fresh MOT until May 2021, four new tyres, a V5C and its complete book pack containing all relevant literature, this very sharp SL500 is now showing some 27,915 miles, at the time of cataloguing, from new and has had four owners prior to our vendor.
