Beautifully presented in Dark Blue Metallic with gold decals over Champagne leather, this Esprit S3 Turbo displays just 39,438 miles. 1981 saw the debut of Esprit Series 3 and, at that point, the Turbo became a regular production car powered by a wet-sump 2.2-litre 'Type 912' engine with a Garrett T3 turbocharger offering 210bhp, 0-60 in 5.4 seconds and 150mph. The interior trim was revised which, when combined with changes to the body moulds, resulted in more headroom and an enlarged footwell. The Turbo Esprit retained the aerodynamic body kit of the Essex cars and featured prominent 'Turbo Esprit' decals on the nose and sides, plus bespoke 15'' BBS alloy wheels.
The example on offer is a 1985 Series 3 Turbo, presented in Dark Blue Metallic (formerly known as Essex Blue) and at the time of cataloguing just 39,438 miles were displayed on the odometer. Included in the history file is a letter from the Lotus Archives confirming this a one of one specification, a ‘Certificate of Vehicle Provenance’, and nine MOT Certificates dating from 1990 to 2004. Acquired by the current owner in 2016, this has been his companion for multiple trips to Europe with its last outing being a dash down to the Le Mans Classic.
Since that the trip, the Esprit has been professionally stored and lightly used during the last six years, consequently we would expect some light recommissioning to be required before extended road use.
