Characterized by an elegantly understated design penned by Elwood Engle, the 1967 Lincoln Continental Convertible was one of America’s most distinguished automobiles, one that confidently preserved the classic Continental style with its combination of grand proportions, advanced construction, gracious luxury and plentiful passenger amenities that included air conditioning, a full range of power accessories and an ingenious disappearing convertible top. A comprehensive restoration was completed on this 1967 Lincoln Continental in 2020.
It retains its original 462 CI V-8 engine—complete with a Holley 750 CFM 4-barrel carburetor—which was rebuilt along with the automatic transmission and rear end. Mechanically, the restoration work also included installing new rear leaf springs to maintain correct ride height, replacing the weatherstripping, fabricating custom brake lines and pulling the fuel tank to perform an acid wash treatment. Rechroming and repolishing of the stainless steel trim was performed, complementing the exterior refinishing highlighted by excellent bodywork and black paint completed to high standards.
Perhaps most significantly, the convertible top was replaced with a high-quality fabric-construction top and the hydraulic operating system was completely restored, requiring an investment of approximately $10,000. In addition to such substantial interior upgrades as a new carpet and new black leather upholstery, the car was retrofitted with a custom stereo system with Bluetooth in the glove compartment, Sirius XM satellite radio and a custom, flush-mounted subwoofer box in the trunk; knowledgeable Lincoln enthusiasts will also note the rarity of this example’s passenger-side rearview mirror.
One of the great American classics of any era, this 1967 Lincoln Continental Convertible remains one of the most sought-after luxury cars of its time.
