The Lexus LFA came about as the pet project of Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda, who, after years of producing relatively anodyne road cars, wanted to build a supercar to challenge those being offered by the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini. The project’s development phase became excruciatingly lengthy, but when the LFA was finally unveiled at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, it was immediately clear that the marque had produced something truly remarkable.
The highlight was the 4.8-liter V-10 engine, co-developed with Yamaha and built in the same facility as Toyota Racing’s Formula One V-10s. The block is a space-age blend of aluminum, magnesium, and titanium alloy, which made it smaller than an equivalent V-8 and lighter than an equivalent V-6. The supremely advanced internals enabled razor-sharp throttle response, allowing the V-10 to rev from idle to 9,000 rpm in just six-tenths of a second. The LFA’s instrument cluster is all digital, because no analog tachometer could keep pace with the engine’s ability to gain and lose revolutions. This miraculous engine is mated to a lightning-quick six-speed sequential automated manual transmission.
Its unique exhaust note is unrivaled among modern supercars, and it alone is undoubtedly worth the price of admission.
With its radical styling and howling V-10 engine, the LFA inspires automotive awe. One of its great achievements lies in its construction. The LFA has a curb weight of just over 3,200 pounds with a near-perfect, weight distribution, thanks to the liberal use of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic, aluminum, magnesium, and titanium alloys. The 500-example production run lasted from late 2010 to 2012, with all examples labeled as 2012 models. Overall, 436 “standard” LFAs were produced in conjunction with 64 “Nürburgring Package” examples.
LFA 075
This attention-grabbing LFA is the 75th example produced by Lexus, and one of approximately 22 US-market chassis painted in Absolutely Red (3P0). As with each LFA, the cabin is completely bespoke. LFA 075 was specified with an expanse of black leather featuring matching stitching on the door cards, instrument panel, center console, steering wheel, and both the upper and lower dashboard areas. A pair of red leather seats (trimmed front and back) provide a nice contrast to the rest of the affair. The cabin headliner is appointed in black Alcantara suede, perfectly complementing the black velour carpets. High-gloss carbon-fiber trim and anodized silver accents round out the exquisite interior tailoring.
LFA 075’s accompanying window sticker copy indicates that it was optioned from the factory with “buff-polished” wheels in silver, along with red brake calipers and the desirable “Speed-Sensing” rear wing. As presented today, LFA 075 benefits from a stellar provenance unlikely to be shared with any other examples of this model: Since new it has been owned exclusively by Lexus dealer principals. Because of this dignified ownership history, it benefits from a pampered life which has seen it regularly serviced under the exclusive care of official Lexus dealerships.
Having been completed in February 2011 and delivered new to Woodfield Lexus of Schaumburg, Illinois, LFA 075 was then immediately purchased by the dealer principal of Park Place Lexus in Plano, Texas and subsequently displayed for some time within their showroom. It remained with its original owner in Texas until February 2018, when it was purchased by the consignor and moved to Ohio with approximately 7,000 miles indicated on the odometer.
A former Lexus dealer principal, the consignor has sparingly enjoyed this striking LFA while in his care and it is said to remain mechanically “on the button.” Maintenance expenditures during his custodianship have been strictly limited to a service appointment in May 2022 at Performance Lexus of Cincinnati, Ohio to perform an oil change and replace a single spark plug (due to a cracked insulator).
LFA 075 is offered showing just under 7,400 miles at time of cataloguing, and it is accompanied by a serialized, laser-etched sculpture, a fitted car cover, manuals, air compressor, and copy of its original window sticker. The LFA’s stunning performance, astounding capabilities, exotic construction, and sharp styling have all contributed to its enduring mystique and collectability—and all these qualities are manifest in this immensely appealing, little-driven example.
