Empattement 2 510 mm.

The Lancia Appia, built as a replacement for the Ardea, was first introduced in 1953. Engineered as the ‘little’ Lancia of the 1950s, the first-series Appia produced 38 brake horsepower and a top speed of 75 mph. The second series followed in 1956 and featured a lengthened wheelbase and new baggage compartment. The power output had been increased to 43 brake horsepower, bringing top speeds of near 80 mph.

With the introduction of the second series, Lancia began selling chassis to Italian carrozzieri; Pinin Farina, Vignale, and Zagato all built custom models on the uprated 53 brake horsepower chassis. Although the Pinin Farina coupé and the Vignale convertible were sold directly by Lancia, Zagato’s sporty coupés were never marketed by Lancia itself, and some owners refer to them as ‘out of series’ Appias.

Delivered new to Italy, the Lancia Appia GT Zagato offered here has been recently restored by Lancia specialists at Noci Motors. Invoices totalling over €40.000 accompany the vehicle, along with a FIVA identity card dated 2014. Previous inspections have found the body to be wholly original and largely unrestored, still showing the ageless beauty of Zagato’s coachwork. In 2015, chassis 1874 competed in the Mille Miglia and would be a welcome addition to a multitude of historic events.
