Lamborghini has long been surrounded by drama; it’s part of what attracts so many to the brand. From the legendary conflict between Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari to the earth-shattering Miura, the outrageous Countach and more, the brand is absolutely dripping with drama. One of the most dramatic is arguably the Murcielago. Recalling the more radical styling of the Countach and even the Miura while still slightly nodding to the outgoing Diablo, the Murcielago was styled by Luc Donckerwolke and served as Lamborghini’s first new model under Audi ownership. A number of enhanced iterations spanned production through 2010, with one of those being the LP640.
In traditional Lamborghini parlance, the LP stood for Longitudinale Posteriore, indicative of the engine’s longitudinal position, with the 640 referencing the amount of power produced by the new 6.5L V-12 engine in Pferdstarke, or PS, the common European measurement for horsepower. It was capable of 0-60 MPH in under 4 seconds and could achieve top speeds over 200 MPH. The interiors were luxuriously appointed with leathers, suedes, contrasting stitching and well-finished surfaces, creating an enviable environment for any car. This 2008 LP640 has traveled only 6,295 miles from new and features the paddle-shifted automatic transmission.
Finished in Arancio Borealis, a pearl metallic orange, the Murcielago is fitted with chrome 5-spoke wheels wrapped with Pirelli P Zero tires and offers a stunning presentation. The interior is upholstered in orange and black leather with diamond-pattern stitching and is complete with power windows, power locks, power mirrors and an AM/FM stereo system. Fitted with the signature scissor doors, the arrival of this Murcielago is always an event. Just about 4,000 Murcielagos were built in total, including special editions, coupes and roadsters—a fairly high number for Lamborghini, showing the popularity of the brand and the Murcielago itself.
