The Jaguar XK roadster was the fastest production car in the world when it made its debut in 1948 with inline 6-cylinder power and a more than 120 MPH top speed. Jaguar carried its performance and racing experience into the third-generation XK series in 1957, and this 1960 XK150 S roadster is one of only 924 produced for 1960. The drophead sports car underwent a frame-off restoration some time ago, and it was subsequently modified with performance and safety improvements by its previous owner to endure road-rally competition, both at home and abroad.
The 3.4L S version of the DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine is outfitted with triple SU side-draft carburetors on a split intake manifold for a factory-rated 250 HP at 5,500 RPM and 216 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 RPM. The engine is backed by an upgraded 5-speed manual transmission, chosen over the original 4-speed. An aluminum radiator with electric fan helps control engine temperature, and JD Classics 4-wheel disc brakes slow the roadster from speed. The shocks, clutch, wiring harness and starter were all rebuilt or replaced as the XK150 S participated in rallies in the Netherlands, Great Britain and the United States.
Classic style starts with a signature leaper Jaguar hood ornament and flows out over the Old English White roadster body with Lucas tripod-style main headlamps joined by a pair of auxiliary driving lights. Front and rear bumper guards add protection. Stowing the black fabric soft top or tonneau cover reveals a red leather interior centered by a pair of low-back sport bucket seats with modern race-specification Pyrotect harnesses. Genuine burl wood and Smiths instrumentation grace the dash. Stainless-steel exhaust delivers DOHC 6-cylinder sound, with a concealed audio system providing entertainment to supplement.
The Jaguar rides on 16-inch chrome wire knock-off wheels with Michelin radial tires.
