Produced from 1963 to 1968, the Jaguar S-Type was technically a more sophisticated development of the Jaguar Mk. II, offering buyers a more luxurious alternative. It was available with either 3.4 or 3.8 litre XK engines and featured longer rear bodywork among other styling and interior changes. Despite its extra weight, the S-Type's independent rear suspension allowed it to corner faster than the Mk. II, especially on uneven surfaces, providing better traction and a much smoother ride for rear seat passengers with the consensus that the S-Type offered significant improvements over the Mk. II in road holding, safety and ride comfort. It was described as 'a convenient family car, a businessman's express, a sports coupé and a grand tourer.'
Finished in light metallic blue with contrasting trim, this Jaguar S-Type was first registered in early 1965 and boasts the iconic 3.8 litre engine. Recently lightly recommissioned after a period in dry storage due to the passing of the previous owner, this a handsome luxury British saloon is presented with a V5 registration document. It is believed that this example had an older restoration by the previous owner which reflects well in the cabin with wood, trim, headlining and carpets all in good order. Upon turning the key, the car starts and runs well with good oil pressure from cold. At the time of testing the wipers worked as did the indicators but sadly there was no pressure under the clutch pedal and this will require some recommissioning (possibly due to loss off fluid).
The exterior presents well from a distance but aligned to the storage that had taken place, the paintwork is average showing some signs of age and micro blistering in areas. The chrome work is in line with what you would expect, it presents well and bright but on close inspection has areas of blistering. On the video’s attached we have provided a walk around to give a good impression of a car that would have had lots of time and expense lavished on it but due to probate has been sat for a while and now presents as a project.
It is advised that although a recent light recommission has taken place further recommissioning/service is advisable. The car would need to be trailered away but appears a good basis for a very good project. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
The car is currently located in Iver, Buckinghamshire.
