Ford motored into the ‘60s with a redesigned lineup from its compact Falcon and personal-luxury Thunderbird to this range-topping 1960 Ford Galaxie Sunliner that was factory equipped with the first production V-8 engine to produce greater than 1 HP per cubic inch. The high-performance convertible underwent a concours-level restoration to exacting standards confirmed by a Palmetto Award at the Hilton Head Concours.
The Sunliner has since earned Antique Automobile Club of America honors across the U.S. from First Place Junior in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and a Senior award in Oakbrook, Illinois, to Grand National First Place in Lebanon, Tennessee, and a Grand National Senior win out in sunny Tucson, Arizona. Nestled into the faithfully restored engine compartment is a 352 CI Y-code Thunderbird Super V-8 that was rated for 360 HP at 6,000 RPM with a special Holley 4-barrel carburetor, aluminum intake manifold, solid-lifter camshaft, dual spring valves with special retainers, low-restriction exhaust manifolds, Turbo-Action spark plugs and dual exhaust.
The factory-engineered hot setup is backed by a 3-speed manual transmission. Independent front suspension with a stabilizer bar and leaf-spring rear-axle work with 11-inch anti-dive brakes for authoritative road handling to match groundbreaking V-8 performance. Mirror-finish Raven Black paint topped by full-length chrome trim complements new-for-1960 Galaxie Sunliner style from the hood ornament out to the horizontal splitter exhaust tips. The matching black flush-folding vinyl convertible top lowers to reveal a white, red and black tri-tone interior with a foam-padded bench seat upholstered in morocco-grained vinyl over deep-pile Luxury Loom carpeting.
A deep-center steering wheel and column shift work together for three-pedal performance control. Dual rear antennae pull in signals for the Console Range radio. The award-winning Galaxie Sunliner rides on body-color heavy-duty steel wheels and Firestone tires dressed with Ford-logo partial wheel covers.
