Named in honor of Ferrari’s 90th Anniversary, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale (translation: “made for the road”) occupies the loftiest rank in the Maranello manufacturer’s series production car lineup, emphasizing “the strong link that has always existed between Ferrari’s road and track cars.” It is the first road Ferrari to feature Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle technology, in this case featuring a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V-8 engine mated with a trio of electric motors—one driving each front wheel and the third set between the engine and Ferrari’s new 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission—to yield a combined 986 HP and 590 lb-ft of torque.
Four selectable driving modes are available, including, from “silent to violent,” EV Only, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify, all activated by a turn of the steering wheel-mounted Manettino switch. Performance is as one should expect from any designated Ferrari flagship, which is to say astounding. Finding 60 MPH is achieved in just 2.5 seconds, and at full song in Qualify mode, the SF90 Stradale tops out at 211 MPH. It is also the first Ferrari to employ all-wheel drive, adding even further capability to the SF90 Stradale’s already remarkable handling.
At 315 miles, the 2021 SF90 Stradale offered here is the very definition of fresh, a rolling “objet d’art” draped in Rosso Corsa paint and filled with Nero leather over an aluminum and carbon fiber monocoque. Proudly wearing Scuderia Ferrari fender shields, the car rides on Michelin Pilot Sport tires on forged Matte Grigio Corsa wheels and sports yellow-painted brake calipers, titanium exhaust outlets, front suspension lift and a back-up camera and rear parking sensors.
